Korean hip-hop has an interesting relationship with Black culture, where things like aesthetics, slang or music directly related to African-American and or Black culture in general (African, Caribbean, etc) are heavily consumed/used and sometimes seen as a trend.

When I think of 2005–2015 K-pop girl groups compared to today’s K-pop girl groups, I honestly think sexualization and objectification never disappeared, but are just a lot more subtle than they used to be.

Growing up in a Western environment, I was used to a version of masculinity where men often avoid physical affection with other men out of fear of seeming “gay.” But South Korean masculinity completely changed the way I viewed male friendship and heterosexual behaviour as a whole.

In my opinion the role of idols has change quite a lot since the creation of kpop. Back in the days idols were pretty much inaccessible, perfect, polite and most importantly scandal-free.

We often see K-pop as a unique concept, and some might say that this genre is pretty easily distinguishable, but with the increasing amount of Western producers(Such as Dem Jointz,Teddy Riley and much more) in k-pop, are we still allowed to say that this genre is still as niche as it previously was?

Honestly, the way people act about k-pop and idols says quite a lot about what type of perople they are and honestly I cant even blame them cause I was a part of tyhe problem when I first got exposed to k-pop and korean media back in middle school/high school.

In Kim Seon-joo new we can cleary feel how the 1970's affected him. When we look into that time period in Korea, we could see how controlled everything was and how hard it must have been for the people living there in that period.

The Devils #데블스, was a korean rock band emerging in the 70's, during a period in which korea was heavily controlled by the government . The group consisted of 9 members, and were a staple of rock music in Korea.

In class, we talked about the fact that most #idols are held to a higher standard cause they are the ones with the camera point on them. I think the public demands nationalism from them exactly for that reason. Everyone makes mistakes, but not everyone makes mistakes that are public and publicized.

In January 2020, SM posted a letter from an Exo group member, Chen announcing his wedding plans. Needless to say the hate this member got was pretty insane. Fans sitting in front of the company chanting and holding signs aksing SM to kick him out for disrupting and damaging the image of the group.

The term "Idol", at least to me, seems very controlling. Usually, an Idol is someone we associate with not only talent but mostly perfection. We tend to idolize people whom we put in a specific category, we distance ourselves from them, almost making them "mystical creatures".
