The Mariners in 2025 won the most one-run games in the majors. They are now 6-12 in one-run games to start 2026.

As for the offense: it’s just going to have to be better. If the M’s are going to be the team that can’t hit lefties, it’ll put a lot of pressure on them to win games like tomorrow’s—a rubber game at home, facing a righty, about to go on the road to a division rival they trail. Skating on thin ice.

Going to try to thread a needle here—Dan maybe isn’t the reason the Mariners lost that game. One run on one hit is probably more to blame. That said, lasting image in my mind from that game is the manager not knowing the mound visit rules in a pivotal spot. It’s inexcusable.

Little did I know that the transition from Castillo to Muñoz would maybe be the larger source of discourse than Miller/Castillo. And now with Dan not being allowed to make consecutive mound visits? What a cluster, lol

Andrés Muñoz is not warming in the bullpen. Appears as though Luis Castillo is going to go for a nine-out save in the ninth, Mariners leading 1-0.

At 20 years and 302 days, Colt Emerson is the youngest Mariners player to homer since Jose Lopez on Sept. 13, 2004 (20y 294d) That is, of course, before Emerson was born (July 20, 2005)

Whew, the Mariners needed that. And to do it in that fashion with Colt Emerson delivering the dagger? As feel-good a win as they’ve had all season to this point.

That half-inning feels like one that, all year to this point, would’ve put you behind a run or two before even coming to bat. Good work by Woo to get out of trouble.
