Spent 6 1/2 hrs at work today, trying to do all the things I have put aside for ‘later’ over this month. Didn’t clear the list, but feel so much more caught up and prepared. I’m looking forward to the day that I can work ahead 🙃 The difference in work rate without frequent disturbances is crazy 😉

Had the kids play with AI today. Creating strong research questions, checking sources, lateral checking of sources. It was good fun showing them how all their prior knowledge about the CRAAP method tied into lateral source checking 1/2 🧵

Inundated with Chromebook distribution. Stressed with yearbook set up. The negativity hit hard. BUT! Two days of orientations & sharing our space with kids again, and the happiness is making its way back. The school library is the very best place in the school, & it’s so fun to share the joy

Well, heck of a start to the school year, but orientations start on Mon, and I'm (kind of) ready. After 9 days of printing posters for teachers, and a week of giving out Chromebooks, I'm excited to play school librarian again!

Every course I’ve taken for my masters has been valuable, and I’ve found a way to connect assignments and make them valuable. It looks like my final 2 are going to break that pattern. This is going to be rough.

A6: Aides are scheduled - one group of 7th graders and one of 8th. They divide up specific duties and also ‘work’ in the library with shelving and supporting visiting. Library Leaders volunteers during Flex and before school. They need to be present regularly to retain the honored title! #TLSkyChat

A5: As well as my Library Leaders who join me before school and during our daily Flex time, I have student Aides as a connection class. They have specific tasks, but we aim for a weekly brainstorm time to keep on upping the ante! They work SO hard when it is their idea! #TLSkyChat

A5: I start in the summer with 2 retreats for the students to get together to brainstorm plans for the year. We start in August with a plan in place. Throughout the year we have planning meetings and lots of opportunities for new ideas #TLSkyChat

This coming year, I am trying something new. 6 Aides at one time. 3 will be creative, 3 will wear their official badges and will be shelving, helping students, etc. - learning more about the library. Then they will switch. I'm going to let each team determine weekly or monthly #TLSkyChat

A4: For middle school kids - what CAN’T they do? They come up with ideas, they create the plans, they do the marketing, they create the social media, they design the bulletin boards, they even use dynamic shelving and rotate the displays! I’d honestly be lost without them 💞 #TLSkyChat

One of my favorites was one of my rather overexcited students, deciding that her dynamic shelving included books that were facing the wrong way … She thought they looked cool… I had to explain that no one could see the title of the book 😆🤣 #TLSkyChat

A3: I found my para's perfectionism warred with my goal of letting the kids make mistakes ... she found it harder than me! But she has the same heart and goals, so we worked through it! #TLSkyChat

A3: My admin team has always been supportive and ready to hear my ideas - and love the kids of student-centered EVERYTHING, but I still had to fight for scheduled time and to be considered a priority. I also had to persuade my para (when I had one) to let go of her ideas of perfection 😄 #TLSkyChat

Love this! I know some people use students in a geek squad kind of way too. Kids can do everything 😃 we just need to give them the opportunity #TLSkyChat

A2: I love that one group gets to be very voluntary and allows for a lot of creativity and plan pivoting (Library Leaders), whereas my Aides have more structure and required elements. Both empower the students to take charge #TLSkyChat

A2: As well as ‘doing all the things’, the one thing that my student staff do that makes ALL the difference is the brainstorming and creating programming. They know what they want and ‘sell’ it better than anyone else! It’s FOR the kids, so why not BY the kids? #TLSkyChat
