After a warm and dry day today, showers return Tuesday for another stretch of active weather. Day-to-day cooling will also start on Tuesday and continue through much of the week, when temperatures will be at least 10 degrees below normal for most areas for Thursday and Friday.

Areas of dense fog this morning, especially just south of Lake Ontario then becoming partly sunny this afternoon. Dry weather will extend into Monday but unsettled weather returns Tuesday into the middle of the week. pic.

An area of showers mainly between the Genesee Valley and Tug Hill will slowly diminish and move south of the region this evening. Drier weather then expected for Sunday with high temperatures 5-10 degrees warmer. pic.

For the last day of Severe Weather Awareness week we’re focusing on the NOAA Weather Radio. It’s important to have multiple ways of receiving life-saving weather warnings and NOAA Weather Radio is one great option.

Showers with a few thunderstorms will continue through the day today south of Lake Ontario. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.50-1.00" is expected for most areas, with some higher amounts possible toward the western & northern Finger Lakes. Showers will taper off this evening.

The next widespread round of showers moves in from the west tonight and lingers through Saturday. Parts of Western NY may see rainfall amounts exceeding an inch, though flooding is not anticipated. The eastern Lake Ontario region will remain on the drier side of this system.

An NWS storm survey team has confirmed an EF-0 tornado near the Town of Farmersville, NY. The tornado was short lived with a length of 0.23 miles with peak gusts up to 80 mph.

Warm to near record warmth across our region this afternoon will be erased by a cold front bearing showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. While diminished, there is still potential for a few of these storms to bring damaging wind gusts, especially across SW NYS.

Widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected ahead of a cold front, bringing an elevated threat of severe weather across Western New York this afternoon through this evening. Due to the saturated ground, thunderstorms may result in ponding and isolated flash flooding.

The quiet weather today will be short-lived. Tomorrow (2-8pm), a strong cold front will move through the area w/the chance for severe thunderstorms (greatest potential toward Southwestern NY). The main threat is wind. Large hail (> 1") & an isolated tornado is also possible.

Showers and patchy fog will end this morning. Cloudy conditions will continue through early afternoon, with sunshine expected to break through later today.
