Top albums of 2025 (in no order): Wet Leg - moisturizer It seemed like nobody wanted to take Wet Leg seriously when «Chaise Lounge» blew up in 2022. They have a second album, and it’s even better. Hopefully, they’ll now be seen as a great band and not attractive women with a good song. #bestof2025

Today’s selection: Kanaan & Ævestaden - Langt, Langt Vekk Stoner rock meets Scandinavian folk in this oddly effective pairing. Has some beautiful songs and some pleasing drones, sometimes in the same track.

Today’s selection: Jimmy Cliff - The Harder They Come RIP to an absolute legend. I was a reggae hater for a long time. Don’t know why, as I love groove-based music, but I wasn’t experienced enough to hear the nuances. «It all sounds the same.» Glad I came around, and this was the album that did it.

Today’ selection: Supertramp - Breakfast in America There’s a lot of «uncool» music that is actually pretty dang great. This album is packed with great songs from start to finish. In a year known for the genesis of punk, this still holds up as the opposite: proggy, poppy, falsettos. #nowspinning

Today’s selection: The War on Drugs - I Don’t Live Here Anymore There’s snow on the ground and I’m drinking tea, so this feels right this morning. Their poppiest, but that only adds to their mix of Springsteen with a touch of psychedelia sound. #vinyl #dailyvinyl #nowspinning

Today’s selection: Motorpsycho - The Tower Their 18th album saw them lose a longtime drummer only to find a younger, more explosive one in Tomas Järmyr. Then they release their most progressive and heavy album (at that time). It’s a winner if you love hard rock or prog. Cover by Håkon Gullvåg.

Today’s selection: Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells (Boxed version) A proggy bedroom recording by a insanely young first time musician somehow became a smash hit and helped put Virgin on the map. Even more impressive was that it was made up of one side-long instrumental composition split on two sides.

Today’s selection: Gene Clark - No Other Massive big budget album that flopped hard, leaving Gene’s career ruined. Forgotten and put of print until a major reevaluation years later. Now seen as a masterpiece of country rock and one of the 70s great albums. #vinyl #nowspinning #dailyvinyl

Today’s selection: Motorpsycho - Child of the Future (2025 remaster) Can’t say I hear a huge difference, but glad to hear they’re trying to polish up this definitely muddy album. They were never happy with Steve Albini’s studio, though they didn’t come with their top set of songs either. #vinyl

Today’s selection: Joni Mitchell - Ladies of the Canyon Joni is always a good Sunday morning choice. This is the album is full of incredible songs beautifully performed. Another selection: Radiohead - OK Computer Can I squeeze any more enjoyment after a billion spins? Maybe if I pretend I’m at the cusp of adulthood still. Maybe if I sing at the top of my lungs. Maybe if I do air guitar to chords I could never imagine. Maybe I can tap into that love, another time.

Today’s selection: Nick Cave & the Bad Seed - The Boatman’s Call There’s some overplayed songs here, but it’s among his strongest full-album statements. I like introspective Nick more than abrasive Nick, so I can’t complain he followed this path for the subsequent 20+ years. Striking cover too.

Today’s selection: The Moody Blues - Days of Future Passed The only of their albums I ever got into. A wonderful mix of psych rock and orchestra. The orchestral bits feel tacked on to great songs, instead of a sermons harmony. Still fantastic. RIP John Lodge. #vinyl #johnlodge #themoodyblues
