No one can experience the narrative, themes, or ethos of your work if they don’t first pick it up and open it. All aspects of your marketing (including your cover) should beg for further investigation. Once that attention is captured, THEN you create emotional engagement.

SWEATIN THE SMALL STUFF: spent a good bit of time on a background that 70% of will be obscured by figures when finished - still, I love the look of this empty room and the reality it implies.

I think I was able to distill my entire social philosophy into a single logo.

The bold simplicity of Ross' shield while maintaining legibility. The Fleischer palette and upward trajectory of the letterform's spine convey hope more clearly. I'm sure y'all have some thoughts, though.

This logo always makes me VISCERALLY ANGRY! Here's a few different approaches, none of which are THEE answer, but ALL or which are logos of a place I would rather charge with the care of my monies. I wish I had the time to the 2-hour video that this atrocity deservers.

Saw this wall graphic at the airport today. I designed all 3 of these airport logos more than 20 years ago. Glad to see they haven’t been replaced yet. My goal is always to make timeless marks - so far, so good

Found a 15-year-old doodle of Marc Maron today. So long ago that I drew his hair black. His show has been a companion while I drew for a good chunk of my career - I’m gonna miss it.

Despite the dubious veracity of the claim, the assertion, in and of itself, is fraught with treachery.

I’ve begun sanding my Bristol as prep. Strathmore has changed its finishing process that has hindered my inking. Now I sand to gain more tooth. I know I could just buy toothier paper, but l, with the size I work, this would be cost prohibitive.

the WIX logo is JUST A LIL OFF. Not enough to make it bad, but just enough to UNDERMINE ITS EFFICACY. If they had spent the 10 extra minutes I took here, they could’ve had a great logo. This is the danger of rigid devotion to your grid - good designers knows when to veer away from it.

They should just release a list of who IS gonna return - it would be easier.

Found a very old leave-behind from when I was in my 20s, trying to break into comics. There are small hints of the artist I’ve become, but this version of me relied heavily on the filters & the precision of finishing work digitally. Let me know if I should do a full video on this

I've been seeing some questionable Graphic Design advice online lately. So here is my best, most basic advice I can offer any designer.

Look - the shapebuiler tool is fun and all, but I see these types of small errors a lot because it it. Take the time to refine your letterforms; especially when building a masthead for your comic!!

to be clear, Pedro Pascal & I were at OCHSA at the same time (in fact I don't even think we appear in the same yearbook - I skipped photos my 2nd year) and I, for sure, don't know him. I just think it's poetic that 2 dreamers began their journey at the same place to then end up on the same project.

I got to create some promotional posters for the Fantastic Four movie (these were part of a giveaway at SDCC this past weekend)

So, I sorta won an Eisner this weekend! I contributed to Mad Cave's "LA Strong" anthology (which benefited comic professionals who lost theirs homes and livelihoods due to the LA Fires) and won the Humanitarian Eisner. So... Eisner Winner by proxy?

Since I am flying to San Diego, I will only have a small smattering of prints for sale during my signings (see earlier post for time/booth#). I can still sign for free and can do small/quick remarques.
