I think the build vs buy debate in software is often framed wrong. It's not about capability. It's about context. Team size, timeline, budget, scope, expertise - all of it matters when developing tools or tech.

Poor/bad tools can of course be used to do great work. That shouldn't be the goal though, as we all want good tools! On the other hand, a great tool by itself doesn't create great work. It just raises the baseline. The talent and craft of the users are still paramount for doing original work.

Because of our company @afectivo.bsky.social, I've been learning more about digital marketing lately. I'm not new to sales and marketing though, as my parents had a small shop in Madrid for more than two decades and I got some first hand experience in retail from it.

Cold days in Madrid lately, so after some walks outside we stayed home and watched Monty Python's classic movies during the weekend. Life of Brian and The Meaning of Life are still great. My partner didn't know much about Cleese et at, so they were a great introduction.

Starting a company in Spain is a lot of work but I enjoy it as it's a great learning experience. I've been wearing different hats this week. I've also talked to some people about our project and have received some good support and encouragement. A good feeling to start the weekend!

This might sound odd, but I think an engineer designing a drill, at the very least should know how to drill. How are they going to test the drill or know if they are making a good drill? (Sure, they could always delegate. Not really talking about drills here, as you can imagine).
