I think we need something similar to military veteran programs, but for software/gamedev. With the current state of the industry, I see many having a hard time grieving and adapting. I'm saying this for my case as well: it's been tough lately and past trauma doesn't help to deal with the times.

This morning I've been adding profiling to a low-level C++ library to try figure out some performance bottlenecks and I've also been reading and digesting a recent EU policy paper. I wonder if this qualifies me as a low-level engineer or as a high-level engineer? None, perhaps?

Coming from a conversation I had on X these days (still have an account there, and I check it from time to time). I think the bigger issue with the current discourse is that many people working in tech don't have any background, experience or education in humanities/arts. So they just don't get it.

I think one of the advantages of getting older is that you have lived enough to see how good/bad things were in the past. So you have some data points to compare against. When somebody comes with "it's always been like this" etc, you can push back without rubor. Things can be (much) better.

I think one of the best, if not the best, human tools I got from working in a very challenging, competitive and not so well paid industry -compared to others- for several years (videogames), is a BS detector. Still fails from time to time, though. *In case you didn't know, we have bulls in Spain.

Some people may ask us why we didn't add any AI prefix or suffix to @afectivo.es's name. E.g. AfectivoAI. Our main focus isn't on AI, though of course we want to leverage it ethically and in a sustainable way. On the other hand, I personally think that adding AI to a company name won't age well...

In corporate circles, a common asked question is "what is your definition of success?". For some, the secret answer is "get powerful and wealthy". No wonder where the focus is on these days.
