During fieldwork last weekend, we encountered the elusive Borus stickerii, commonly known as the borer sticker. Both our borers got stuck and it took 20 minutes, a lot of sweat, and some creativity to eventually get them out. 😂

We reconstructed 300 yrs of fire history in transverse ranges of CA from fire scars in the Bigcone Douglas-fir. The fire history of chaparral/BCDF may reflect fire history in the LA Basin, to some degree. A paper from Keith Lombardo’s dissertation is here:
