Earlier this week, we were called to Pontefract Park after reports of a distressed cygnet found to be trapped by one leg in fishing line, near one of the lake’s islands.

Another new arrival, a crash landed swan reported to us on a busy road. Now comfortable in one of our care pens, with the complimentary all day buffet. We expect a full recovery for this bird over the coming days.

A late call to York on Sunday evening, for a distressed swan reported to be carrying a hook through his upper beak and trailing line, with a reluctance to eat. The swan was secured on first attempt, the fishing tackle safely removed, and returned to his awaiting mate.

The first cygnets of 2026 recently arrived in our care with their mother, who required treatment. Sadly, the cob died before they hatched, leaving the family vulnerable. We’re pleased to report that all are doing well. Thanks to local residents to local Police for their support.

Another recent call out for our rescuers, on this occasion the swan was reported to our helpline to be carrying a fishing lure, with a triple barbed hook attached. Our thanks to those who kindly reported the bird and requested our assistance.

Perseverance paid off at the Chesterfield Canal. Four cygnets were swept through a lock spillway, leaving their parents with just one. After a late-night search and an early return, they were rescued with help from passing boaters and safely reunited with mum and dad.

We attended a swan on the Ashton Canal in Manchester, after reports that she was carrying fishing tackle. The bird - one of a breeding pair with newly hatched cygnets - had reportedly been observed for a number days with a fishing hook embedded through her beak.

We were called to the University of York earlier today, following reports of an injured swan (pictured). Unfortunately, the bird could not be located when our rescuer arrived. If you spot the swan anywhere on campus, please get in touch with us.

We recently came to the aid of this swan in Leeds after reports that the animal was trailing a large amount of fishing line with a ‘bait bomb’ attached. The bird was safely rescued and the tackle carefully removed, before release shortly afterwards.

Our volunteer rescuers in Sheffield were recently able to help a nesting female swan, found to be carrying fishing tackle in the web of a foot. Thankfully, the hook was safely removed, and the bird could be immediately released back to her cygnets.

Recovering in one of our intensive care incubators is this female Blackcap, found stunned in the middle of a road having collided with a vehicle. She is already a lot brighter compared to when she first arrived, and we are hopeful of a full recovery.

This weekend, we helped a family of swans after concerned members of the public reported the newly hatched cygnets were unable to follow their parents back to the nest, due to steep banking owing to falling water levels.

Tonight, we rescued this swan in Leeds after it was found collapsed at the side of a lake, exhausted and in need of help. Thanks to the kindness of those who contacted us, the swan is now safe.

Another rescue call recently in Leeds, to this crash landed youngster. Thankfully the swan was uninjured, and could be immediately released to the nearest flock of swans.

A new arrival in recent days, this swan got a lucky escape after landing on a busy dual carriageway near Barnsley. He has some injuries to his wings and feet from the heavy landing, but thankfully avoided the speeding vehicles.

A late night call out for one of our rescuers, who arrived after midnight to help a distressed swan trapped behind garden fencing.

We were recently called to a village near Darlington, for a young swan reported injured beneath overhead power cables. The bird has an injury to a wing which we expect to heal fully, while he continues to recover in our care.

We were contacted yesterday, after walkers spotted this young swan trapped behind some stock fencing near Ripon. Our volunteer rescuer attended, and the bird was soon released on to an appropriate stretch of water nearby.

Another recent arrival from Selby. Sadly, this bird sustained serious injuries after landing on sharp fencing surrounding a lake. The damage to her underside was severe, and the before images are too graphic to share here on our page.

A couple of recent casualties; a male Blackbird and a Coal Tit, both injured by cats. Pleased to say both birds made a full recovery following recovery and treatment, and have since been released.

A rescue took place this evening at Dearne Valley Park involving a Whooper Swan. The bird had become heavily waterlogged after being chased by a territorial nesting pair of Mute Swans, who were clearly unhappy with the intrusion.

Another swan in need of our help recently, found on a busy road in Leeds. The bird was walked to safety, before our volunteer rescuer arrived to later return the bird to the nearest swan flock.

A recent call to this swan at Stanley in Wakefield, reported with a fishing hook through his beak. When our rescuer safely contained the swan, further hooks with line were found in the animal’s neck and a wing.

Earlier today, we responded to a call to the Aire and Calder Navigation at Woodlesford, where a swan was found with a fishing hook lodged through the bird’s nostril, with line still attached.

Sadly, another swan has been injured after striking overhead power cables whilst in flight. The bird was found beneath the lines in Doncaster and has since been rescued, receiving treatment for a wing injury.

A swan was reported to us by a member of the public who had spotted the bird at the roadside between Breighton and Wressle while driving past. Based on the injuries to his face, we believe he may have crash-landed into nearby trees. The swan is now safely settled in one of our care pens.

A tricky rescue at Ulley, the new nesting pair of swans had been washed over the steep weir and remained trapped and becoming distressed in the area below.

A swan required our help on North Lane in Leeds earlier today, after a bad landing due to the high winds we’ve been experiencing. Safely contained by our volunteer rescuers, the uninjured bird has since been released.

This swan required our help last week on the Elsecar Canal, found to have an elastic band caught around his lower beak. Thankfully the band was easily removed, and we were able to return the swan immediately back to the water.

After days evading capture at Brickyard Ponds, Bolton Upon Dearne, this swan was finally caught. A tight loop of fishing line was wrapped around her beak & tongue, preventing feeding. Removed safely & she’s now back with her mate, feeding again.

Two more treated in our care, and now ready for life in the wild once again.

One of our volunteer rescuers attended Rother Valley Country Park, after park rangers reported a swan distressed by a dog frisbee stuck around her neck. Thankfully, the swan was quickly and safely caught, the frisbee removed, and the bird was returned straight back to the water unharmed.

🚨 Railway rescue near Brough station yesterday evening. An injured Whooper Swan was spotted feet from the line by a train driver who alerted us. With help from Network Rail, who imposed a temporary speed restriction, we safely contained the bird. She’s now in our care and expected to recover. 🦢

A visit to Roundhay Park this afternoon, for a swan reported to be carrying a barbed lure on one leg. Our volunteer rescuer was able to quickly secure the swan, and carefully remove the fishing tackle before the bird was returned without lasting injury back to the water.

This young swan has just arrived following a rescue and x-ray that sadly confirmed our suspicions; the bird will now undergo surgery to remove an ingested fishing hook.

Another swan reported to us, who had mistaken wet tarmac for a waterway and sat shocked at the roadside. Thankfully uninjured, this youngster was able to be released a short time later onto a nearby waterway.

A young swan was rescued this evening at Hooton Lodge near Rotherham, after staff noticed the bird was profoundly lame. Upon rescue, it was soon clear that the swan is suffering from a serious leg infection. The bird is now safe in one of our care pens and receiving the appropriate treatment.

A kind-hearted couple out walking their dog made a heartbreaking discovery yesterday morning in a village near Selby; an injured badger lying at the roadside.

A tense moment beside the busy East Coast Main Line - a swan in serious danger, just metres from the electrified tracks and regular trains passing at great speed.

This swan was rescued by one of our volunteers the weekend before last with our colleagues from the RSPCA and Police, reported to have flown into overhead cables and crashing down on to the tarmac below.

Our volunteer rescuers attended a swan yesterday on the Horbury Cut at Thornhill, reported to be carrying a fishing lure from the animal’s foot. The barbed tackle was safely cut free following rescue, allowing the bird to be on his way a short time later.

Feeling the love for this swan, on Valentine’s Day! ❤️ Our supporters may remember this bird found bloodied and injured on the Leeds Liverpool Canal back in December, and subsequently rescued by our volunteers.

There was an unusual visitor to a residential garden in Castleford earlier in the week! The RSPCA asked us to assist with this young swan, which had crash landed. Thankfully the only injury was to the bird’s pride, and the swan has since been released onto an appropriate waterway.

A call to Askern Lake in recent days, for a swan reported to be carrying fishing tackle. The bird was quite distressed, but our rescuers were able to quickly capture the bird and safely remove the hook caught in the end of her beak.
