We received a high number of calls yesterday concerning this swan at Roundhay Park, reported to be carrying a fishing lure. Thankfully, the bird was quickly caught and the tackle safely removed.

This swan arrived in with us last month from Lincolnshire, found beneath overhead power cables with a dislocation. After veterinary attention and appropriate recovery time indoors, he has since been introduced to one of our outside pens with other cygnets, and progressing very well.

This afternoon, we attended a bloodied swan sat injured on the glass roof of a garden centre at Woodmansey near Hull, after a heavy crash landing.

Dan and Alex assisted this adult female swan earlier in the week, reported to us with a wing injury. Attempts at securing the bird from land in fading light the afternoon before were frustrated, resulting in the use of our boat to ensure the animal’s safe rescue the following day.

This afternoon we were pleased to release five more young swans back into the wild, after a successful period of rehabilitation. All were recently rescued and have since made a full recovery under our care with treatment, returning back to their natural habitat where they truly belong.

Our rescuers assisted this swan at Yeadon a couple of weekends ago, reported with a fishing hook in the bird’s beak with line attached. Thankfully, the swan was quickly secured and the tackle was safely removed.

We’re delighted to share an update on this resilient swan we recently rescued and treated from Lincolnshire, after he was discovered to have been cruelly targeted and shot with an air rifle at least 16 times.

This young swan was found at the side of a busy road in South Yorkshire recently. A kind member of the public took the bird to a local vets, and we later collected the animal. After a clean bill of health, we were able to return the swan back to the wild.

A call out to Castleford this evening at 10.30pm, for a young swan found behind some fencing off a public footpath by a member of the public walking her dog. We suspect the bird may have flown into the nearby overhead cables. Now settled into our care.

This injured swan arrived in with us on Thursday of last week from Newark-on-Trent. We believe she may have had a poor landing given the injury to her leg, but with some time in one of our care pens with treatment, the bird is making a steady recovery.

We recently undertook the rescue of a swan from the Lincoln area, reported with a large lump in his neck. Imagine our shock upon x-raying the animal, when we found he had been repeatedly and deliberately targeted with an air rifle.

Another swan rescued and treated by our team in Lincoln recently, found with a fishing lure in the animal’s beak. Thankfully, the lure was carefully and safely removed, causing no lasting injury.

A new arrival from Carlton Miniott, now in our care and receiving treatment for a leg injury. The bird is responding well, and we expect a full recovery in the near future. Our thanks to Krista for both rescuing the bird, and bringing it in to us.

Back to Roundhay Park in Leeds twice more in recent days, for two separate swans found carrying fishing tackle in their legs. The hooks were safely removed, and the birds sent on their way once more.

It’s that time of year when we are constantly called to crash landed swans - mostly inexperienced youngsters who are flying the territories of their parents for the first time - who end up in some unusual locations!

We were recently brought this beautiful Barn Owl from Cliffe, found at the side of the road and suspected to have been hit by a vehicle. Our thanks to our kind supporter for bringing the bird through to us.

Our thanks to Sam (pictured) from Tesla UK for keeping this injured young swan safe and contacting us to help, after the animal had crash landed into a storage compound at Drax. The bird has since made a full recovery, and has been released back to the wild.

We recently received a call to our helpline for this injured fox found with one leg inextricably trapped in wire stock fencing, alongside the banks of the River Ouse. Given how disturbed the vegetation was, we suspect the fox had been there for a number of hours in his attempts to free himself.

Our thanks to officers from Lincolnshire Police for assisting in stopping traffic on the busy A15, so our volunteer could safely rescue this crash landed cygnet. The bird has since made a full recovery, and has been released back to the wild.

The demands for our help are never ending, often back to back calls to our helpline and endless messsges. It’s an especially difficult time of year for inexperienced young swans making their way in the wild, finding themselves in all kind of situations!

Dan and Alex attended Roundhay Park in Leeds yesterday evening, requiring the launch of our inflatable boat after a distressed swan had evaded previous rescue attempts from the shoreline.

Waiting at the touchline, ready to be subbed on! ⚽️ This swan found himself in difficultly in Leeds, after a crash landing. The bird has since been released into the safety of a local flock.

Yet another young swan washed over the lake’s weir and trapped in the spillway below at Roundhay Park. Accessing the spillway is extremely challenging for our rescuers, but the only way to ensure the safe recovery of trapped birds. The cygnet was soon returned to her grateful family on the lake.

Another hedgehog arrival, this chap arriving from Snaith in recent days after being found wandering around during the day time. Progressing well in our care, along with continued treatment for a burden of internal parasites.

A call to Wakefield last week, for a young swan found to have crash landed in a residential garden. Sadly, the bird had injured his back hitting the ground, so has required some time in our care but is making a steady recovery.

We’ve just finished attending to this swan on the Canal at Riddlesden in West Yorkshire, reported to be carrying a lure. The tackle was carefully removed, and the bird returned back to the water.

Thanks to an observant member of the public, we were recently able to assist this adult swan at Elsecar Reservoir, reported to us with a fishing hook in the webbing of bird’s foot. The hook was carefully removed, and the swan immediately returned to his family.

A new arrival this evening from Treeton, reported with a leg problem. The bird is unable to stand, and the limb is warm indicating infection is likely present. She will now get both the help and treatment needed back at our base.

Another visit to Roundhay Park, for a report of a swan carrying a fishing hook with line attached. Our rescuer was able to successfully remove the tackle from the animal’s neck, and without lasting injury the bird was released back to the waterway a short time later.

🎃 A little early for trick-or-treating, but this swan certainly gave the residents of Thornton, East Yorkshire a surprise this evening! 🦢 The bird had taken flight in the fading light and perhaps clipping overhead telephone cables, crash landed into the residential gardens below.

Crash landed birds continue to dominate calls to our helpline, typical for the time of year when inexperienced cygnets take flight for the first time. This bird was kept safe in the garage of a Thorne resident during the week, until we arrived to assist.

Our first call out yesterday morning was to a swan on the Aire & Calder Navigation Canal, reported to be towing a fishing lure and large amount of line from her leg. The bird was swiftly caught by our rescuer, the tackle safely removed, and the bird returned to the waterway a short time later.

We attended the River Dearne one evening recently. Determined after half an hour of searching in ever fading light, we eventually found our swan in the darkness and in a very poor state, taking refuge among the reeds.

A crash landed swan required our help recently in Wakefield, after the animal had found itself in a residential garden. Thankfully, there were no injuries and the bird was immediately released to a nearby flock.

We attended Greasbrough yesterday, to a cygnet on the Dam reported to be trailing fishing line from the bird’s beak. Our volunteer was able to rescue the animal, and the fishing tackle was safely removed.

A plea for help! 📣 The last few weeks have been incredibly costly. Just now, we're facing over £2,000 in essential expenses which include veterinary medication, x-rays, blood tests, leg identity rings, feed, bedding, annual insurance and website hosting.

Despite the very wet conditions, we attended to this swan earlier today at Skelton Lake, reported to be carrying a fishing hook through the bird’s beak. The swan was rescued, the tackle safely removed, and the animal returned to the water a short time later.

The warm summer weather has certainly caused so many issues for wildlife, and this bird is a sad example.

Our apologies for the graphic image. Our rescuers recently attended this sad case at Doncaster Lakeside, where a swan and a coot were reported to be tangled together by their feet with a length of braided string, and the bigger bird pulling along the other through the water.

Another young swan, who arrived into our care a few days ago from Newark-on-Trent with an injured dropped wing. Thankfully there are no fractures, and the wing is strapped into place to take the weight off the limb whilst the bird continues her recovery in our care.

We collected this injured swan yesterday from Brigg in Lincolnshire, found with horrendous wounds and maggots that had quite literally eaten the poor animal’s wing away and into the body cavity too.

We were called to Barnsley to assist this swan recently, found carrying some fishing tackle. Thankfully, this was easily removed, and the bird could be immediately returned to their awaiting family.

After three weeks of care and treatment for a nasty dog bite to her thigh, the female swan we rescued was safely returned to Goole Marina last week. She's now reunited with her mate (pictured), who did a wonderful job of looking after their cygnets while she was in our care.

Delighted to report that we were able to return the male swan back to his grateful family at Nunroyd Park, late on Thursday. The bird was treated at our hospital for a leg infection, for which he fully recovered ahead of his release.

The first cygnet of the year to have left home and crash landed upon first flight, unfortunately for this bird onto the M62 motorway. The animal had a lucky escape, and was safely contained at this nearby warehouse. Our thanks to the staff at Torque in Castleford, for contacting us to assist.

Another swan assisted recently at Doncaster Lakeside, found with a fishing hook embedded in the bird’s leg. Thankfully, the hook was carefully removed and the bird was able to be returned to the water.
