Sam Kieth died, the creator of The Maxx. This one fucking sucks. The Maxx was what got me into comics. It was hugely important to teenage me. I still have all my Maxx comics, figures, cards, shirt, hat and DVD. I watch the show at least once a year. Julie Winters is hugely important to me still.

I am alive. Just on March 12th ended up in ER with small bowel obstruction. I now can add being in the ER when it went into lockdown and having care delayed because a cop shot someone to my American experience. It has been a long week. I'm still in a ton of pain but recovering slowly.

Wow, I actually ended up loving the movie. Was it heavy handed with the message? Maybe once I'd have said so but media literacy is so low I'd say no. I needed a movie that didn't feel cynical but had hope via perseverance and community. Keanu Reeves is funny and perfect in this.

Made the cover cookie Amaretti Cookies with Pandan and Pistachios from 108 Asian Cookies by Kat Lieu. They are so good, highly rec both on taste and texture! I got a little heavy handed on the dusting. In my defense Bad Bunny had just come on my playlist, I danced a little too much while dusting.

Stopped working on my horror bookmark to do a Pokemon cross stitch from the pattern book I borrowed from the library. The book is going on my to buy list.

Don't watch Damaged with Samuel L Jackson! Don't waste those 90mins. Enjoyed it until the last third. The acting was great. The atmosphere great. The plot until then was intriguing enough. But the ending sucks.

Tonight's distraction movie is Jumpin' Jack Flash (1986) starring Carol Kane, Jonathan Pryce and Whoopi Goldberg. This was I think the first spy movie I saw as a kid and got me hooked. But it also gave me unrealistic romance views.

Made Kat Lieu's Simple Shortbread with Miso cookies. I was excited because I basically had all the ingredients. I had red miso from a Mac&Cheese recipe. I did substitute with lemon, lime and mandarin juice from the trees in the back instead of yuzu.

Tonight's distraction movie is Night of the Lepus (1972) starring DeForest Kelley, Stuart Whitman, Rory Calhoun and Janet Leigh. I love this ridiculous creature movie in part because they use guinea pig sounds for the rabbits.

I made Scallion-Miso Mac and Cheese for dinner. It came out great for a slightly different twist on mac and cheese.

As suggested I'm going to alternate between Torchwood and Doctor Who series 3. Up first is Everything Changes 2006). This is the show that got me into Doctor Who because I saw a picture of Jack/Ianto and needed to watch what it was from, found out it was a spin-off and the rest is history.

Got Grandbaby Cakes cookbook from the library and had to try the first recipe "Mama's 7UP Pound Cake". Had a little trouble getting it out of the pan but it tastes so good if you like lemon cake. This cookbook goes on the buy list.

Tonight's distraction is a rewatch of BrainDead (2016) starring Aaron Tveit, Tony Shalhoub, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Danny Pino. I haven't watched this political sci-fi satire since it aired but *gestures to everything* made me want to revisit it.

Back to my Doctor Who rewatch with The Idiot's Lantern (2006). Yeah, the no faces thing is so creepy but it is another episode I enjoy a lot. Was tempted at points to cosplay Rose in this episode.
