Young airplanes can fly and feed immediately after hatching. Their first food is unfertilized "nurse eggs," laid by their mother for exactly this purpose.

Have you ever seen airplane eggs (sometimes mistakenly called "visibility markers") on power lines? The act of laying is brief and rarely observed, but the eggs themselves are easy to spot, as they may develop for months or years before hatching.
