Friends, on Monday I’ll begin my sabbatical fellowship with the Institute for Ethics and the Common Good at the University of Notre Dame. So I’m going to take a break from social media for a while as my family and I adjust to our new rhythm. I welcome your prayers and good thoughts in the meantime.

I was given Doug Wilson’s marriage books early in my marriage & found myself both attracted (for many complicated reasons) & repulsed. Thankfully, repulsion ultimately won out. I pray all under his influence find freedom & our country is delivered from the scourge of white supremacist patriarchy.

Yes! This is a key point in my chapter on childrearing in Households of Faith. Children are distinct persons with their own agency. They belong to themselves. We must proceed from that starting point.

For the love, friends, please slow down & verify before you share things you really want the pope to have said. Because most of what I’m seeing shared right now, he didn’t actually say. I know it’s exciting, & there’s a lot of enthusiasm for a new pope. Rightly so! But misinformation helps no one.

The last papal conclave I was at the @universityofdayton.bsky.social surrounded by Catholic friends & colleagues. I recall watching Pope Francis’ first address in the grad assistant offices. I am missing those friends & colleagues today. My prayers are with the cardinals & the Catholic Church.
