Numbers from the latest blockbuster storm: dd.weather.gc.ca/today/bullet.... With 165.2 cm Feb 1-22, St. John’s #YYT is now less than 5 cm from its snowiest February on record (170.1 cm in 2006) and closing in on its snowiest calendar month (173.4 cm, Dec 2000). A few more days to get there! #nlwx

As of February 22, St. John’s #YYT has recorded 376.4 cm of snow this season — already past the full-season 30-year average of 363.4 cm. Climatology says ~30% of the seasonal total still falls after this point… which would be another ~110 cm in a typical year. ❄️📈 #nlwx

Deep freeze in SE Labrador ends dramatically Tuesday as a backdoor warm front brings maritime air from the Labrador Sea. Cold air also retreats from Newfoundland, though more gradually, via a combination of factors. Of course, with such changes, some snow can be expected. #nlwx

Wintry #NLwx has made a comeback in central parts of the island. Measuring 20.5 cm of fresh snow through 5pm in #GanderWest since last night (water equivalent 22.5 mm). Started out rather fluffy but became dense as temperatures increased through the day.

Average snow depth down from 61 cm on Wednesday (before thaw) to just 28 cm today (now refrozen solid) in #GanderWest. Should see some replenishment in the coming days. #nlwx
