Proud of this piece, She Knows. At 22” x 30”, it’s my largest painting yet, done in gouache. Working at this scale has me excited to keep exploring larger work. Finishing it brought me back to my time in Naples.

I’m giving a talk tonight to the San Francisco Gem & Mineral society about lapidary / geological inspirations from my residency in Naples, and sharing some of the art I made there. Here’s a watercolor sketch from Ischia, one that explicitly captures the geological beauty in the environment.

A plein air sketch (watercolor and ink) from my time in Paris this past November. It was the end of my artist residency in Naples and I wanted a few days in one of my favorite cities before heading home. Now that time all feels like it was a dream.

Spent the weekend exploring the low Sonoran desert. Got a quick sketch in from the car looking at some beautiful cliffs in the Kofa wilderness. Done in about 15 minutes using watercolor.

I’ve always loved rocks and last year I joined the San Francisco Gem and Mineral Society. I’ve been going once a week to work on turning rocks I find into cabochons and silver jewelry. Last May I went on a field trip to Nevada to mine for turquoise. I’m still working my way through this material!
