I am delighted that The Howard Primary School in Elford has secured funding to improve its school buildings through the Condition Improvement Fund. This Government is investing £2.1 billion in school maintenance this year, including £450 million for upgrades at 684 schools across the country.

A new Youth Hub is coming to Tamworth 🎉 Youth Hubs bring together Jobcentre Plus, local authority services, employers and training providers under one roof, supporting 16–24 year olds to access the opportunities they need to get on in life.

This Labour Government is stepping up action to go further and faster on illegal trading. 🚨 Under a new £30 million enforcement package, shops linked to organised crime, including rogue barbers, vape shops, mini-marts and sweet stores, will face targeted raids, closures and cash seizures.

🐶☀️ Don’t Leave Dogs in Hot Cars! ☀️🐶 I’m supporting the RSPCA’s campaign reminding dog owners to take extra care during hot weather. Please take care when walking dogs in the heat, make sure they have plenty of water, shade, and somewhere cool to rest, and never leave a dog in a car on a warm day.

Last week I visited local business Bold IT to meet with MD Danny Leitch and discuss the challenges facing the technology sector. It was great to hear directly from a successful local business about how Tamworth’s innovative companies are adapting and growing in a changing digital landscape.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the death of local Tamworth girl, Madison. I know many residents will share in the shock and sadness at this devastating news. My thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Madison’s family, friends, and fellow pupils at this incredibly difficult time.

I want to wish everyone across Tamworth and our villages a very happy St George's Day!

We’ve secured £1.39 million as part of Labour’s £307 million investment to repair and maintain colleges across England. This funding will help improve facilities, with the college able to target it where it’s needed most. This is a positive step for education in our town and across Staffordshire.

Last week I had a great visit to Moorgate Primary School, meeting pupils after their trip to the University of Birmingham to learn about chemistry, DNA, polymers and batteries. It was fantastic to see so the children so engaged and aspiring themselves to become future scientists!

I have written to the Chancellor urging action on the rising cost of fuel and the impact this is having across Tamworth. I have called for a further 6-month delay to the fuel duty escalator and a temporary reduction in VAT and fuel duty, to help ease pressure on families, farmers and businesses.

Today in the House of Commons, I raised the impact the Strait blockade is having on Tamworth. Fuel costs are rising, energy bills are increasing and our logistics sector is feeling the strain. I asked what steps Govt is taking with allies to reopen it and cut costs for families and businesses.

Nobody celebrates St George’s Day like Tamworth! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🐉 Great to be out in the Castle Grounds this afternoon, seeing so many people celebrating our local heritage ahead of St George’s on Thursday.

Great to visit Choices CIC in Weeford today and see first-hand the incredible work they do supporting people facing a wide range of mental health challenges. Their equine-assisted programmes offer a really unique and impactful approach, creating a calm and supportive environment.

I’ve met with the Digital Minister to discuss my report on rural connectivity across Tamworth. I’ll continue pushing both network providers and Government to invest in these areas and deliver the connectivity our rural communities deserve.

I've met with the Royal Institute of British Architects to discussLevel 7 apprenticeships and their role in building skills across the architecture sector. These pathways are opening doors into skilled careers, widening access to the profession and helping employers develop the talent they need.

It was great to bump into Maebrook Day Nursery on their visit to Glascote Library. It was brilliant to see so many young children enjoying and benefiting from their local library, building a love of reading early and making the most of such a valuable community space 📚

The new Waste Crime Action Plan takes a zero-tolerance approach: boosting Environment Agency funding, introducing tougher penalties (including unpaid clean-up work and licence points) and supporting landowners to clear illegal waste. This plan protects our community here in Tamworth.

I recently visited TR Partnership Homes at their HQ in Fazeley. We had a really constructive discussion on the challenges facing housebuilders and how we can unlock more social housing. Supporting smaller developers is key to boosting housing supply and delivering the homes our communities need.

Great to visit Tamworth Bowls Club, a well-loved part of our community right in the heart of our town. It was a pleasure to meet members, hear about their work, and discuss how I can support the club going forward. The Club have an open day on the 11th April, why not come down and give it a go!

I've met with Alex Norris MP, Minister for Asylum, to discuss the ongoing use of the Holiday Inn in Tamworth for asylum accommodation. I have been clear that this situation is untenable and has had a significant impact on our community and local businesses.

I attended the debate to support calls for a national strategy on sudden unexplained death in childhood—the 4th leading cause of death in ages 1–18. Too many families are left without answers. We must do more to understand and prevent these tragedies. That's why I’m backing a clear national plan.

Staffordshire is set to receive an additional £4 million in high needs capital funding taking the total to just under £15 million. This investment will help expand SEND provision in mainstream schools and support the growth of places within local special schools.

I asked the Prime Minister to join me paying tribute to Pte Leon Spicer, Pte Philip Hewett, and 2nd Lt Richard Shearer, who made the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq in 2005. The Staffordshire 3 Group, led by Anthony Firth, have secured a permanent memorial, that will be unveiled in Tamworth next month.

I’m supporting my constituents Liz & Steve Fitzgerald in their campaign for safer school transport. A survey found 1 in 4 teachers pressured to drive minibuses, and 1 in 10 after a full day of teaching. Children and staff must be kept safe. www.itv.com/news/central...

Waiting lists are down nationally by 374,000 over 18 months, ambulance response times are the fastest they've been in 5 years, and GP & A&E waits are improving. At University Hospitals Birmingham, waiting lists have fallen by more than 25%, and 9% at University Hospitals Derby & Burton.

I've met with Cornerstone Partnership to hear about their new-style developments, designed to reduce care costs for the NHS. They’ve successfully been involved in delivering a similar project in Bristol and are now hoping to bring the same approach to a site right here in Tamworth town centre!

Great to meet with Lichfield & Tamworth Chamber of Commerce representatives, to discuss the key issues facing businesses in Tamworth. It’s important we continue working closely with the business community to ensure their voices are heard and that they have the stability they need to grow.

I recently visited Rawlett to speak to 40+ students about their upcoming school trip to Borneo, where they will take part in a range of impactful projects, including supporting local community development initiatives and assisting with environmental conservation and wildlife protection.

Great to join Brian Berry, CEO of the Federation of Master Builders, for the #BuildUpfromtheBasement podcast. A fantastic opportunity to discuss challenges and opportunities facing SME housebuilders and share how, as Chair of the APPG for SME Housebuilders, I’m supporting the construction sector.
