Last day with students. That marks the end of my eleventh year teaching (I came to teaching after trying many other things). Not an amazing year but a solid one. First year with mostly freshmen.

When I decided to redraw my P4A art, I didn’t take into account how deeply unserious my P4A art was. Spent a ridiculous amount of time on this and it’s not really the same thing but I’m ready to move on.

Diagnostic mammogram scheduled for Wednesday. My boobs are apparently dense which turns out is a bad thing. It’s Schrödinger’s breast cancer till then. Maybe it’s there and maybe it’s not. My boobs are the one part I don’t hate, so if course they might be a problem.

I’m listening to Space Opera by Catherynne M. Valente. It’s sort of like Matt Dinniman and Douglas Adams all wrapped together and given some interesting music.

Phone conversation I just had. Them: we need to schedule a diagnostic mammogram. Me: Didn’t we just do this? Them: You mean the screening mammogram. Me: Oh. (We know nothing at this point. Time for panic later.)

I follow this guy on TikTok who makes songs for other tiktokers and he made a song about a service cat. I commented, “thank you for your service, cat”. And it was taken down as a violation of community guidelines. Umm? Is this offensive somehow?

I have a colleague who left Kansas last year because his son is trans. It was smart but my community is worse for it. Needless fear impoverishes us all.

Just finished The Astral Library by Kate Quinn: a fun romp through old books with a side of appreciation for a fashionable man. It does have a lot more than passing reference to the foster care system and was a bit triggering of my own abandonment issues but well worth it.

I was in a funk this evening about evidence of a student’s academic dishonesty and in my head about how I dealt with it. Still not sure but after a visit to the gym I feel better. We’re all doing our best to deal, probably even the student. There’s so much pressure on some of these kids.

Just finished Operation Bounce House by Matt Dinniman. I need a friend to finish it so we can talk about Roger. It’s less whimsical than the Carl books. Sort of closer in vibes to Scalzi’s Old Man’s War, but definitely a Dinniman book with questions about the intersection of games and life.

I think I’m cool and then I do or say something so cringe I have to spend the rest of the day in a spiral. Honestly, there are no real adults
