I don’t know how I feel about this topic in general or how you actually square it. I don’t really believe in ‘cultural authenticity’. That’s often just another layer of performance or narrative added after the fact but I do believe in preventing cultural loss.

When I travel I don’t really compare places but sometimes you find somewhere that has a good shout for the best place in the world. This little cove in Kaş ticks all of the boxes. ✓ peaceful ✓ sheltered ✓ easy access to the water ✓ little rocks were I can sit ✓ weird hot/ cold mixy water

I don’t like the new liquid glass look but lots of apps have much better UX in iOS 26 which is good. This, however, should be some kind of UX crime. I keep pressing the wrong ‘x’. It is infuriating .

I’m glad the ecosystem is heating up but one issue I have with most of these is that they are built on BlueSky not ATproto. This makes a mockery of the lexicon (imo), hedges on bsky not ATproto, and comes with huge limitations. They should have their own lexicon and x-post to bsky.

Met this little monster in Turkey today. I stopped to play for a bit which in puppy language means “I’m gonna bite you with my razor sharp teeth”. I made a poor decision because he then decided to change me down the street biting my ankles.

But just to play devils advocate with myself here, I think there is work for me to do too. I need to show (not tell) that there are alternative approaches. While i can’t influence large labs alone, i can demonstrate a path that prioritises agency, privacy, and consent.

I am blocked by over 1000 people on bluesky, mostly due to AI blocklists. I fully respect the right of anyone to curate their feed but I fear that this kind of blanket withdrawal from all AI discourse is counter productive.

I visited Rhodes old town today and at first I was slightly annoyed at the busy tourist-centred streets. But i started to reflect on what exactly it is that I think I want and why this is so bad. It made me think about my own relationship with tourism and our (or my) obsession with ‘authenticity’.
