I can never understand why children's books get left out of "great book" lists. The books we call "children's books" are really books written for an audience that includes children, but excludes no-one. They are books for EVERYONE - and if you exclude them, you miss the most important books of all!

In some countries (Not only Sahel), the overthrow of seemingly democratic regimes (actually not) by juntas can also lead to interpretations of democracy as a failure. However, juntas manipulate the public by claiming they will bring the very democracy they supposedly oppose.

When asking why the military seizes power and stays in power, one cannot escape the question of what makes militarism appealing to society as a ready-made set of norms of governance. The failure of democracy explanation is just lazy

The military offers a worldview and political culture which can apply beyond the barracks: nationalism, verticality of command, compliance with orders, glorification of masculinity, meritocratic social mobility, binary classification of who is an enemy and who is not etc.
