I've seen the first one, so I'm starting a franchise watch here (I might go back and rewatch the first afterwards, if only for ranking purposes)

It is now the 28th in Japan, so Happy Birthday to Band Maid's adorable compositional genius and guitarist Kanami Tono, she's 34 today.

Kicking off Shocktober a few days early

Last week, I turned up for my outpatients appointment, only to find out that the hospital had re-arranged it for this week. We switched it to a phone appointment, which was supposed to be around 3:10 today. Still waiting for the phone to ring at 4:55.

Found the complete series boxset of Breaking Bad on Blu Ray for £1.50 in a charity shop (I've never seen an episode, BTW). First disc missing. Got S1 on DVD in the very next shop. Complete series comes in at £2.50 all told. Feels like a bargain.

This Band Maid song has come up randomly for me a few times recently, unlike a lot of the fans, I love it. BY FAR the most straight ahead pop song Kanami has written for them (no guitar solo!!!), but it's got elements (the piano intro) I'd love them to explore more. (Also, Saiki drops an F bomb)

I'm amazed that only DVD release of the original versions of the films remains the non-anamorphic laserdisc ports from the limited 2 disc editions. Does anyone know if not releasing these versions was a condition Lucas had for the Disney deal?

Looking forward to next month. We've got Ghost of Yotei on the 2nd, then an album from Hitsujibungaku, an EP from Band Maid and the new Taylor and Florence albums.

I'm so glad Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade is the final film of the series. That last frame is perfection, there's just no way further sequels could have worked.

I've not watched a film since Wednesday, I've put plenty on, but not been able to settle to anything, so tomorrow I'm going to break out my emergency down in the dumps movie... Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. It's always the movie that helps refocus me, at least when I'm struggling with films.

Going on a bit of a diet tomorrow. Not much to lose, aiming for 10lb off, which would get me down to 10 1/2 stone (147lb), but it does get tougher as one gets older.

Petzold is one of our finest working filmmakers. Why there isn't a complete boxset of his and Nina Hoss' collaborations, and why so many of his films are undistributed in the UK, baffles me.

Episode 1 observations: Tasks a bit middling ('curling' one was basically a revision of a couple of the Heathrow tasks), but elevated by the cast. In studio stuff already fantastic, including the chaotic final task. Loving this group already, fascinated to see the teams (next week?)

Going back through Taskmaster confirms why I gave up on series 17 after a while. The panel never gel, there's zero chemistry. John Robins just seems smug and overstudied, TOO eager to win, and the laughs are very few and far between for me, almost always from Greg and Alex rather than the tasks.

It looks like this is a commercial tie up with a set of business in Tokyo, but still, it's another beautiful song from Hitsujibungaku.

In the decade plus I've known him, and all the hundreds of movies I've shown him (and vice versa, for the record), this is still my friend Tim's favourite movie I've ever shown to him. (My favourite from him is Persona, which tells you a lot about where each of us come from initially as movie fans)

I have issues with the central performance, but even so, this (free, in a very decent version, for Prime members in the UK) comes recommended.

Making my way backwards through Taskmaster in an attempt to rank each series (series, Jason). I've now got to S17, which is one of only two I never finished. I quit after 3 or 4 episodes because I never clicked with ANY of the cast, nor was I taken with the tasks. Will finish it this time though.
