Carbon, climate, justice, from space, in Baltimore
pinned post!
I still think my attempt at
#climate
#scicomm
holds up, many years after I created it, but my "call for action" is weak tea given the inaction of the past 15 years.

All the umbrellas at the pool were claimed except for this one, furled and alone. It turns out that is because the pin that holds it open is missing. Did I know how to tie a knot to hold it open? Yes. Am I inordinately proud of myself for knowing how to tie this knot? Also, yes.

Biking in Paris was not so much like Denmark and a lot more like New York City. Tons of fun as long as you can cope with potholes car traffic pedestrians and nobody obeying any rules. Oh, and also not very good markings on where the bike lines are. Top level graffiti. I had a fabulous time.

Boarding the train from Bordeaux to Paris, estimated travel time 3 hours, half the time it takes to drive a car. Why can’t we do this in the USA?

CO2 is a direct proxy for air quality and circulation. Normal outdoor concentrations are around 430 ppm. This graph shows concentrations during boarding / deboarding an aircraft rising to 2400 ppm. That’s a lot of sneezing and coughing and farting. So I wear a mask.

Why stop? Climate change ties all the threads together. Wasteful war in Iran? Don't need it if we don't need oil. Wildfires and crazy weather? Get worse if we don't get off fossil fuels. Prices at the pump? Non-issue for EVs. Economic opportunities? Electrification is the future of a strong economy.
