Christmas has arrived at Oak Hill. The children and staff have been busy decorating the school ready for Christmas. There are lots of exciting magical Christmas activities to share in the coming weeks.

In computing, year 2 had fun learning about how to take a good photograph. They explored the language ‘portrait’ and ‘landscape’ so we could choose the best way for our picture. They also learned about making sure they got everything in the image as well as getting it nice and clear.

The entries to the superhero competition have been amazing. Representatives of our 'Safe and Sound' committee work with the safeguarding leads at Oak Hill. Today they helped to judge the competition and winners will be announced soon. USE OUR POWER FOR GOOD.

Today at 11am we observed a 1 minute silence to show our respect and remember all those affected by conflict. Thank you to all our pupils for taking part. Children have enjoyed wearing their poppies and members of Brownies, Rainbows, Scouts, Cubs and Beavers wore their uniforms with pride.

We're wearing odd socks to remember we are all different, but we are all equal. Everyone deserves respect and kindness. We are keeping Oak Hill a bully free zone.

Year 4 have had a wonderful day learning all about The Anglo-Saxons and Vikings at Tamworth Castle. They took part in a range of workshops. The children had great fun and the castle staff and members of the public commented on their excellent behaviour and their wonderful manners.

Reception have been busy printing ‘fireworks’ with paint and have been matching and counting numbers 1-5. The children have settled back into routines well and have enjoyed talking about their week off.

Nursery have had a very busy week! At the start of the week, they made cards for a resident of a local care home who has turned 100 this week! To end the week, they had messy play with pumpkins!

In their final Art lesson of the unit this week Year 4 created large scale pictures of specific details from logs. They worked with a variety of media such as , wax crayon and pastels. Finally they washed their work with watercolours. We are soooo proud of their work. Well done Year 4.

This week Reception have been looking at Harvest. They have learned that when we grow food, we have to harvest it to eat it. The children have thought about the foods that grow

Last week the children in Year 1 compared numbers stating whether they were greater than, fewer than or equal to each other. We used practical resources to support our understanding of this.

Year 3 explored how sedimentary rocks can transform into metamorphic rocks. This happens due to heat and pressure. We created amazing volcano models.

This afternoon in the nursery garden a group of children were creating lovely imaginative play together. They showed pretend play by creating a cake using logs and acorns for the candles. They sang beautifully “Happy Birthday to you” and recalled past birthdays and future birthdays.

Year 4 have been reading 'The Queens Nose'. To support this, pupils worked hard making chicken coops for their homework! What an amazing effort.

As part of our science topic of living things and their habitats, we went for a walk around the school grounds today to see what creatures had created micro habitats. We were looking for invertebrates.

Year 4 have been busy exploring Giorgio Morandi, an Italian still life artist. We wanted to share with you a special piece of art work. Great work Year 4!

Reception and Nursery have had a wonderful start to their learning journey at Oak Hill.

Welcome Back! What a wonderful first week back at school. Lots of new friends to make and new routines to learn. Its been brilliant seeing everyone!

School has now broken up for the Summer Holidays. Children return on Wednesday 3rd September. We hope you enjoy the summer break.

In DT Year 2 explored how strong a piece of paper was. They explored how folding the paper in different ways made the paper stronger. The children then had to design a structure that had more than one story, pillars and strong enough to hold a kilogram weight.

Reception had short bursts outside. They made 'lemonade'. They used stones to make a pattern like a shell for Norman the Silly Slug. They cooled off with putting our feet in cold water.

In DT Year 1 were cooking this week. They talked about the importance of healthy foods like vegetables in our diet to provide us with the vitamins and minerals we need for a healthy body. The children then put their chopping, grating and ribboning skills to good work to make a healthy salad.

Year 4 children took part in a Transition to Middle School Q&A with our local PCSO this afternoon. The children asked fantastic questions and were complemented on their maturity.

This week Year 3 have been looking at coding. They have also been working hard on growing tomatoes as part of their veg power project.

Year 2 have recently been discussing things that make them feel special and safe.

This week, Nursery have been learning about their new topic, Pirates. They have been involved in lots of fun and creative learning activities.

Our Wellbeing Ambassadors from Year 4 met last week to discuss how we can further spread the message of wellbeing across school. They wanted to make posters to remind children of the positive message they are trying to share. These can be found all around school!

VE Day Celebrations at Oak Hill! We were very lucky that we were able to visit our WW2 museum today! We had a snapshot of what life was like during the war.
