Tonight, I’m thinking about all the families who are deciding whether to get food, medicine, or keep the lights on. I nearly died rationing my insulin to have enough $ to feed my girls. No one should face a choice like that while we’re on track to seeing the first trillionaire in modern history.

Hey family, I have some news to share. For over two years, I have had the distinct honor of serving the people of Kentucky in the office Governor Andy Beshear. I am humbled and excited to announce that today was officially my last day.

The rights of the American people are being stripped in real time. The fact that the Trump admin pushed ABC to silence a talk show isn’t a one off. This attack on freedom won’t relent, and elected leaders playing performative politics or hoping to wait this out will only ensure the attacks worsen.

Tonight, I’m holding space for the lives lost to gun violence that don’t get coverage in the news. Horrific incidents that hardly get attention like the news of two men found hanging from trees in Mississippi over the last 24 hours.

Facism runs from the power of community. Democracy runs through it. In spite of the challenges we face, the answer will always be in us. We the People.

Good morning to the dreamers. Good morning to those who see hate and choose love. Good morning to those who want to end poverty. Good morning to those who want to change the status quo instead of capitulating to it. There is great work for us to do together. Let’s tie up our shoes and get to it.

This is indeed a dark time. So many of our families, loved ones, and entire communities will be crushed by this callous bill. While I am taking a moment to grieve the reality ahead of us, I commit to planting my feet, locking arms with you, and fighting back with everything in me.

In the darkness, light finds its power. We are facing dark times, but our light of love, justice, and humanity still shines. The chaos may feel overwhelming, and progress may feel impossible, but remember what is possible when we stand together. Remember that the power rests in us, the people.

No matter who you love, or the pronoun you use, you deserve to be safe, you deserve to dream, you deserve to prosper, and you deserve a government that protects your humanity.

May we honor Juneteenth, not by the statements we offer, but the work we do. May we honor Juneteenth by the injustices we rectify. May we honor it by the hate we uproot. May we honor it by the reparations and restoration we make. May we honor it by facing our deepest challenges and systemic ills.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Hey family, I am relieved to learn that the information that was shared at my daughter’s school with students and staff about a group coming to the school was thankfully not ICE. An unexpected group tried to enter the school, and scared the students. I absolutely understand.

Senator Booker, thank you.

We must not let the story be told that we saw the wave of hatred bearing down - saw the violent erosion of humanity - and we sat down and said nothing. That will not be our story. Sen. Booker is now 13 hours in. Stand strong, fam. Keep going.

You never stop a bully by giving them what they want. Lying down will never be a winning political strategy.

Hearing those legislators violently yell at Congressman Al Green to sit down last night reminded me of the day a white legislator yelled at me to sit down while I was on the House floor proclaiming that our lives matter. The pitch. The vitriol. I can still hear it.

This has been one of the most transformative years of my life. I lost a lot, and had to deal with wounds that go back to my childhood. Divorce. Campaign debt. Rebuilding from scratch. I faced it all. It has been painful. It has been humbling. Most of all, it has been healing.

President Jimmy Carter understood why so many of us fight for Medicare for All, because he fought for it too. Rest in Peace, Mr. President.

A man who believed poverty could end. A champion for working people. A president who truly understood healthcare is a human right. An honorable man who put his faith into action. Rest in Peace, President Jimmy Carter.

On this day 9 years ago, a beautiful and truly remarkable light came into our lives. It is an honor to be her dad. It is the greatest blessing to watch her grow. Please help me show Prestyn some birthday love!

I hope this day brings you warmth and joyful memories. I hope it gives you the chance to embrace those people and relationships that fill your heart. I hope you give and receive the gifts that money can’t buy.

It’s official! Justyce is now a preschooler! My youngest boss is beginning her educational journey at Coleridge Taylor Montessori with her big sister Prestyn! Words don’t describe how privileged, proud, and excited I am. To watch my girls grow and take on the world is the greatest feeling.

This is a difficult time for my family. That said, there is so much to be thankful for. These 3 are at the heart of everything that brings me purpose in life. Being their dad is a blessing. May we all hold to the dreams and people who help our light shine. Wishing you love on this Thanksgiving.

I just want to ask that you all keep my family lifted. Holidays are often difficult for those of us missing loved ones, but this one will be harder than anything I’ve experienced. Friday, our family will see my cousin Kellee for the last time. Saturday will be her funeral. Keep us in your thoughts.
