#A-Haydn-A-Day (38) No 83 Gmin "The Hen" Le Concert de la Loge, Julien Chauvin Mvt 1: Why on earth is it called "The Hen?" Ohhhh that's why. Funny how, for a minor key symph, it's been nicknamed for a bit in the major key. Contrastingly, there are some lovely slower moments in the lower strings.

#A-Haydn-A-Day (37) no 23 Gmaj Apollo Ensemble, John Hsu Mvt 1: the 3-4-5-4-3-2-1 riff strikes me as very pianistic, and this mvt alsmost has a Bachian sense of "let's work out all the variations I can get out of this idea." Strikes me as a good study piece for trainee composers.

#A-Haydn-A-Day (32) no 59 Amaj "Fire" Royal Northern Sinfonia, Rebecca Miller Mvt 1: Now here's a piece that would go down well in a crowded theatre. I really like the downward leap in the theme and the exposition in triplets. And then the lower strings jumping up- clever contrasting stuff.

#A-Haydn-A-Day (31) no 48 Cmaj "Maria Theresia" English Chamber Orchestra, Daniel Baremboim Mvt 1: Interesting to hear a large-ish band on this one, and the recording feels very string focused- though to be fair, at least in this movement, that's where the action is.

#A-Haydn-A-Day (56) no 20 Cmaj AACM, Hogwood Mvt 1: Oh, nice to hear some trumpets, their blend with the horns and winds is a lovely texture. I've decided to go with my "fallback" recording and I'm enjoying Hogwood's upbeat take on this. Allegro molto with a dash of malt on the molto.

#A-Haydn-A-Day (29) No 26 Dmin "Lamentatione" English Concert, Trevor Pinnock. mvt 1: Well after 7 symphonies in major keys, we're back to D minor. The saddest of all keys! There, I got that reference in. Also, didn't Schoenberg say there was no good music left to to be written in D minor?

WIth my #A-Haydn-A-Day listen-throughs, sometimes I go in blind, sometimes I follow the score, and sometimes I look at other contributor's threads as I listen, which I did for no 98.

#A-Haydn-A-Day (28) no 98 Bbmaj Philharmonia Orchestra, Otto Klemperer mvt 1: have gone with @maticevska.gay suggested recording here and certainly for the slightly dour (but strong) intro, a "traditional modern" string sound fits the bill. I spent most of the mvt revelling in the sound!

#NowPlaying Shuta Hasunuma - Unpeople (2023) Electronics/glitch I suppose, with vaguely ambient leanings. Occasional guests mix things up (Keigo Oyamada, Jeff Parker and great to hear KOM_I on a track), and there's a good variety of sonics across the album.

#A-Haydn-A-Day (25) no 29 Emaj Orchestra Libera Classica & Hidemi Suzuki mvt 1: lovely back and forth between strings and oboe to start. That continues on through the mvt as the strings parts develop. This is a very sweet 3/4 indeed.
