Suzir’ya strives to provide essential protection, support and access to justice for children displaced from Ukraine. Suzir’ya means “constellation” in Ukrainian, embodying the project’s aim of fostering transnational cooperation across sectors and agencies and embracing innovative solutions.

Funded by KIND, and led by expert speakers from Terres des Hommes Nederland, our online workshops last October aimed to equip child helpline staff with essential skills and knowledge to better identify children at risk of abuse and exploitation as a result of the war in Ukraine.

Across Europe, violence – including bullying, emotional abuse and neglect – is a leading reason children turn to child helplines, accounting for over 250,000 (16.5%) of contacts. Child helplines offer critical support, yet they need stronger partnerships and resources to intervene effectively.

Across Europe mental health concerns account for over 580,000 (38%) of child helpline contacts in 2023 with anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts among the most frequent issues. Despite their crucial role as first responders, child helplines often lack the resources to meet the growing demand.
