God Emperor of Dune was pretty good. Probably my favorite of the four Dune books I've read. Probably the only four I'll read. There were a surprising amount of dick jokes. They all felt very necessary. While reading, you are wondering, how does he pee? And does he have junk? Herbert knew.

Valentine's Day was the worst ever this year. Had to deal with a locksmith that had all the markings of a classic serial killer. Talked too much. Kept my wife and I hostage with his stories of self-aggrandizement for over 30 minutes. Very vampiric. I kept trying to think of how to get out of it.

I think we have mostly lumped David Cronenberg into a passive category and haven't considered this enough. BODY HORROR MAN. Watched Maps to the Stars, Crimes of the Future, Naked Lunch, all recently. He's one of the all time greats. Really looking forward to his new one coming out soon.

Crimes of the Future is a film the I enjoyed a lot. Was sleeping on it. Not sure why. Cronenberg is still doing great work. Impressive.

The Italian marble wizard in The Brutalist. Worth the price of admission for that alone.

Crash by Ballard is the horniest novel I've ever read and might ever read. Within that extreme horniness might lie the secrets of the universe. Some sort of dark magic went into its construction.

Absolution by Jeff Vandermeer could be my favorite of all the Southern Reach books. Almost done with it. I love how freaked out and freaky it is. Tripped out factors are at 100%. Very frightening in unconventional ways. Old Jim is a great character. Nature as the antagonist and the redeemer.

Almost odd trying to frame the mourning of a phenomenal artist whose work was partially distinguished by mastery of brutal fear, unlike and above anyone else in moving images. Only one facet of his work, of course, but he had total command of the destabilising, chemical experience of witnessing evil

I know there were lots of shorts after but that last episode of The Return is surely one of the hardest final major works ever. It's incredible the whole season exists ofc but that hour is recapper proof, youtuber fantheory proof, merch proof, nostalgia proof. I think about it all the time.

I saw The Elephant Man as a child and it terrified me. I couldn't stop rewatching it. Everytime it came on. It mesmerized me. It taught me to be a human. To not be cruel. To not judge people by outer stuff. Only the inner stuff.

Reading Jeff Vandermeer's Absolution for the first time and like the other Southern Reach novels, it is a seemingly normal story where everything is like the plot of a dream. Deceptively comprehensible.

Reading The Midwich Cuckoos by John Wyndham. So much better than the films. The sense of confusion and fear amongst the townsfolk hasn't been captured properly. A terrifying situation that should be easy to portray without being hokey. The fear of the next generation is also lost in translation.
