NH needs real solutions — not fewer options. Property taxes are already the main way we fund local services. So why are lawmakers trying to limit future options? CACR 12 doesn’t lower costs. It shuts down possibilities. 👉 Oppose:

After hours of testimony, HB 1815 was passed quickly and signed into law the next day, redefining the state's responsibility to fund public education with little explanation. For many, this raised a deeper question: Is public input being meaningfully considered?

Last week the Senate Education Finance Committee held a hearing on SB 659 & HB 1815 — two identical bills that would rewrite NH’s education adequacy law and redefine public education funding as a “shared responsibility” without defining the state’s share. 🧵

For 4+ hours today, parents, educators, school board members, and taxpayers testified on SB 659 & HB 1815 at the State House. The overwhelming majority opposed the bills. Minutes after testimony ended, the Senate Ed Finance Committee passed them 3–2 with almost no discussion.

HB 1815 will not lower property taxes or increase school funding. It rewrites the law to call funding a “shared responsibility” without defining the State’s share. No minimum required. Vote NO on March 5. Tell your Rep:

This morning, Gov. Ayotte said that NH is funding its schools at record-high levels. But the State’s share is actually down. 2010: $1.03B 2025: $807M ... NH still ranks last in state school funding.

The Statewide Education Property Tax (SWEPT) was created in the 1990s after the Claremont Supreme Court rulings to pay for a significant increase in public school funds from the State. The result for homeowners? Average total school property taxes DROPPED over $4.

The NH Lottery recently announced that it surpassed $3 billion in contributions to education since its creation in 1964. To put that number in perspective, it's $1 billion less than all the money spent on NH public schools during just the 2023-24 school year.
