Ani are fascinating to me. Despite being in the cuckoo family, they don't actually parasitize other nests. Instead, they lay their eggs communally amongst themselves and share paternal care duties equally. Almost always seen in groups. Birds pictured are groove billed ani. #portoviejo #birds

They are so colorful up close. Crotophaga sulcirostris (literally Groove billed tick-eater, which happens to be a common name)
