With two recent launches in/near Nottingham, there is now a point just south of the River Trent that has 8 parkruns within 5 km. The only other places I can find worldwide that match or better this are in South Manchester (8), Belfast (9) and South East London (10).

parkrun Lithuania's first Special Day (for Independence Restoration Day) saw their attendance record more than doubled thanks to an influx of tourists. 6 other countries have had a national record similarly set on their Special Day, though Denmark, Finland and Norway have later beaten it on a Sat.

The new Gibraltar Botanical Gardens parkrun is almost antipodal to 2 events in New Zealand. However, while it subtends a (v. marginally) larger arc to Millwater (Great Circle route through Antarctica), the shape of the Earth means it's actually further in distance from Whangarei (GC through China)!

It's now 3 years since #parkrun announced a 5-year plan to double both the number of active events (from ~2,200 to ~4,400) and finishers (from ~250k to ~500k) each weekend. www.parkrun.com/blog/news/20... Holme Pierrepont #parkrun set an unenviable new record this morning, and also formed part of the new closest pair of events (but >6 km apart by foot at present).Though only if you go by pins on the events map - the 2 courses that get closest to each other are actually Atlasville and Homestead Lake.

Storm Amy caused many cancellations in UK/ Ireland/Norway on International #parkrun Day yesterday, meaning global attendance was <300k for the first time since January. Following German Unity Day on Friday, Austria saw a new national record yesterday, and Germany a new Saturday high.

parkrun Germany held their extra Special Day parkruns this morning (German Unity Day), with a large number of international visitors in attendance, and set a new national record, with over 5,000 finishers on a single day for the first time. Friday is still the rarest parkrunday (just 14 times ever).

13 years ago today I did my first #parkrun, and it eventually became a habit. There were just 176 events in 8 countries: UK+AF, DK, AU, PL, ZA, NZ and US. Daily finishers (most of which in UK) yet to pass 25,000. Now 2,263 events in 23 countries + 5 territories, record 390,750.
