Omg would be nice to have Smell-O-Vision for the smell of these #Hakea erecta was amazing! A common species in the area, so there was not a moment of not smelling them at the site!

The Flame Grevillea, #Grevillea excelsior, is coming out in its full glory atm! This was a smaller one I could reach but those flowers are amazing, this is a wide ranging arid zone tree!

A stunning Mallee out in Southern cross #Eucalyptus burracoppinensis, named after the town Burracoppineast of Merredin. Gotta love an endemic Euc! And one with such stunning flowers and distinctive fruit!

What’s better than finding a #Persoonia coriacea, Finding #Polyzosteria mitchelli! In my opinion Australias prettiest Roach! These are Diurnal species found in the semi arid areas of Australia, and of course it’s a warning to predators and they will spray a bad smelling liquid!

Out around Southern Cross, and spotted this big #Stigmodera roei flying from the car! What a stunning beetle! So colourful it didn’t seem real!

Perth Big spring Orchid show is on this weekend! The smell of the native Dendrobium speciosums is soo intense!

Some orchids from my Orchid Society meeting the other night! Some still had a delightful smell! #Chysis limminghei #Pterostylis baptistii #Dendrobium speciosum & #Rhyncholaelia glauca!

Not quite #Stylidium season but get to admire the plants! Not just diverse in flowers but also habit! Many stylidiums go dormant in summer only burst into growth during winter, moving from underground roots, to dense smaller leaves to their signature growth habit in winter!

Possibly the female flowers of #Lomandra micrantha! Male plants usually form big sprays of many flowers! So tiny and would almost have missed them if I wasn’t looking at a Cassytha near by!

No long inflorescence and stuck close to the leaf axis, this gives this species its name #Laxmannia sessiliflora! This cute little perennial I commonly through the southwest just not so much inland!

Leaves like a Synaphea but no it’s not a Synaphea it’s #Grevillea synapheae a common species of the Northern Jarrah forest all the way up to Jurien Bay. It’s a prostrate shrub that flowers quite prolifically, and always a one I see on my bushwalks!

Flowers that work as a light trap! Pterostylis are masters of using light and in some case scent to achieve pollination, #Pterostylis barbata is a great examples of this! With the pollinia at the top of the flower they use light to fool their pollinator to travel further up to the pollinia!

Glowing in the understory #Acacia celastrifolia is beginning to flower! It’s a species that’s often found under Eucalyptus on lateritic soils.

Creeping on the ground everywhere is #Banksia dallanneyi, a small prostrate shrub with subterranean stems! It’s found from Geraldton to Albany! Gotta love the prostrate Banksias they are all soo odd!

Rhomboid and spiky and a host to Pilostyles, all descriptions of #Daviesia rhombifolia! Walkin my first survey site after it was burnt two years ago and some have come back altho not depicted here. It’s a wild spread WA species that grows throughout the southwest as well as further inland as well!

This spiny shrub is #Cryptandra arbutiflora, a common species in the southwest that gets covered in this tiny tubular flowers! The genus Cryptandra gets its name for their anthers being hidden by their hooded petals

I guess not all sedges have edges 🤔 #Chorizandra enodis growing in the many creek lines on their way to Lake Leschenaultia! I love these Odd species of the #Cyperaceae! This species is widespread and loves these creek lines and seepage areas!

I believe these to be the male inflorescence of #Hypolaena exsulca growing in a patch of phlebocarya! It grows in winter wet areas usually in sandy soils!

Plants that like it wet! #Cycnogeton lineare, a member of the #Juncaginaceae, a mostly wetland to aquatic plant family of grass-like plants! This species produces tubers that they die back to in summer, only to reemerge in winter often getting called water ribbons for its leaves!

Male flowers of #Allocasuarina humilis are produced at the end of its phyllodes where pollen is released into the wind! They can produce quite a few flowers turning the plant a rusty colour!

The blue stars of the forest floor! #Chamaescilla corymbosa a common tuberous species that pops up profusely throughout the southwes. They often have a few leaves only that will lay on the ground and are often confused for Orchids but they are part of the #Hemerocallidoideae family!

Tangling through the strappy leaves parasitising them as they go, #Cassytha glabella is feasting! Getting its energy together to produce these fruit that a bird will hopefully move off to another area and infect more plants!

Lomandra are an examples of a dioecious plant! Male flowers are often the most show while the female flowers are less so this is quit prominently shown by this #Lomandra nigricans! First time coming accross female flowers of the species!

Today’s adventures in Leschenaultia conservation park! My views today were the best! Bird orchids around Pilostyles infected Daviesia, and waterplants!!! All to come!

A speck of blue in the shrubs! #Pheladenia deformis an early flowering widespread species that was once Caladenia but has since moved to its own genus! Which it is the soul species of!

The flowers of my #Pleurothallis quadrifida are opening!! 😍 hopefully once they fully mature the fragrance will start to emitted (looks like I may have to inhale the flower tho)

Popping up early in the season #Wurmbea dioica subsp. alba can be found all around the southwest! This species has a complex variation in dioecy where populations here show both unisex flowers and bisexual flowers, this can be seen in the photos below of 3 variations

Possibly #Drosera pallid, tho flowers were not open at the time 🥲 either way I love these climbing sundews! And their cup shaped leaves! Ready to eat anything that flies by

I believed this to be #Hibbertia hypericoides subsp. hypericoides, tho images are a pain for IDs for this genus 😅 can’t check hair shape and what not! Either way I just love Hibbertias! Such cheery flowers and very diverse species wise even if most, but not all, are yellow

One of my friends was selling seedlings of the Phalanopsis malipoensis, and mounted it and it’s now putting out new roots!! This species is deciduous in nature and can drop all its leaves if it stays too dry in winter only to regrow them once warmer wet seasons come back! Delicate but tough!

Go to a granite outcrop and look closely, you may just find the tiny Adders Tongue Fern #Ophioglossum lusitanicum! Throwing up their specialised fertile frond these ferns are an unusual group, needing a symbiotic relationship with fungi to grow from spore to spore forming mature plant!

An unknown Pygmy #Drosera growing under some shrubs! No flowers yet but I just love the plants of these tiny lil plants! Tho I’m guessing that’s different for the insects that are unlucky enough to get caught 😅

Got a new one from a local-ish nursery (Walpole 5hrs away is local right) #Pleurothallis prolaticollaris a lil Kikii from their mother plant, live moss and humidity lets hope it grows big (it is a miniature so big as it gets 😂)

Orchid show on today! So many cool orchids!! And did I walk away with some? Yes I did! 😅 such good displays

Another plant that seems to have the most creative common name… of Trumpets… I feel like that’s a disservice to this stunning species, #Conostylis androstemma! Either way this is a common species on lateritic soils mostly on hill slopes and granite outcrops!

Did I just find Jellyfish in the bush 🤔 Nope it’s #Anthocercis gracilis #Solanaceae. A rare threatened species, listed as vulnerable, known from 9 populations! It’s a slender shrub with few small leaves, and they have some incredible flowers! I wonder what pollinates them 🤔

Pungent in leaf shape but not smell #Hovea pungens is another purple, as usual, Hovea that can often be found in rocky areas and slopes, sharply pungent leaf tips that give them the common name Devils Pins!

Being a sexually deceptive species #Pterostylis vittata presents a insect-like labellum which you can see here, sitting down ready to be triggered by a male gnat

The ever so eye catching #Andersonia lehmanniana! I believe this is the autonym subsp. lehmanniana. Based on it being more erect, flowers on the end of branches and distribution! One of my fav genera (I have to many) of #Ericaceae!

Female flowers of #Allocasuarina humilis! This small shrub forming Sheoak is common throughout the southwest, and unlike other species it has nobly cones compared to the spiky cones of many!

A small prickly leaved shrub describe many native Ericaceae, certainly so with #Styphelia pallida, commonly called the Kick Bush! It’s commonly found in the southwest where it can be in bloom throughout the year. It’s named for its ghostly pale tubular flowers.

The matted Triggerplant #Stylidium repens, is a tiny creeping species of Triggerplant. It creeps along forming stilt roots that allow it to grow above the soil! They produce white to pink flowers that can flower twice a year! Often profusely!

Busy weekend at the orchid nursery this weekend as we held the annual cymbidium society orchid show soooo many the big yellow one being name grand champion of the show!

Who needs five petals when you can have all of them! #Drosera heterophylla is a common tuberous sundew of swamps and granite outcrops. It is an upright species that is self supporting and is easily recognisable by its multiple petals that can be quite variable.

Won this #Pleurothallis quadrifida at the orchid society I’m part of a couple of months ago and it’s now coming into flower 😍 can’t wait

The many “leaved” Bitterpea #Daviesia polyphylla! These plants cover themselves in flowers, I unfortunately was too early and only a few flowers were open! I often see this species mistaken for D. angulata, but it’s shorter phyllodes, flower time and color make it stand out from it

It’s Warram time! Well it’s a little passed the main season for flowering but they still are! #Dioscorea hastifolia is a widespread (Perth to Shark Bay) species that produces edible tubers! The female flowers give way to these three winged fruit which can be produced in profusion!
