I don't know who needs to hear this, but the publishing dream you had as a kid doesn't exist anymore. The conditions for it are long gone. It's dying. The hopeful thing is that it can be, like so many of the other crumbling institutions, be reimagined and rebuilt. Hopium isn't a strategy, though.

At least for the moment, this is nostalgic.
