Very grateful that I’m in this magazine once again, this time writing all about the weird and wonderful Super Mario Land 2, a Mario game made not by Miyamoto, but by a collection of Nintendo’s less-celebrated devs.

Gardening people: I’ve been growing strawberries for the first time and three of them were ripe today, so I plucked them, washed them, and ate them, and (this sounds ridiculous) but they were the most flavorful delicious ones I’ve ever had. Is this what fresh grown produce tastes like? This normal?

Working through some rainy day thoughts on game writing: I love it and feel so grateful and lucky to have the opportunity to write about video games for magazines and sites that have given and continue to give me that opportunity. It means so much to me. But it also feels like I’m restrained.

Seeing a few Yoshi reviews that (I think) have gotten it wrong so here’s my one paragraph review: Yoshi is a gorgeous, happy game for people who love game mechanics. It’s a game that has 100 good ideas. It’s a toy chest of fun, experimentation and discovery that will surprise you. Great for kids.

Today I completely untethered my mind from anything and everything and gave myself permission to write whatever bullshit felt fun, and I put down 2000 words of the weirdest coolest story in about an hour. What a feeling.

The brain scan is tonight.

This is so damn good. I love the areas of the internet that are still just “hey let me tell you about this thing that I like a lot.”

You know I’m gonna post about Virtual Boy every chance I get.

Not enough people talk about Judgement. Refreshingly admirable characters, a really comforting buddy dynamic, people pushing back against government rot and evil pharmaceutical companies, something to say about Alzheimer's disease... plus dude has a cool jacket.

Wrapping up a review of one of the most atmospheric and challenging games I’ve ever played in VR. Pretty special game, this one.

Stranger Than Heaven looks like a masterpiece from a creative team that’s perfectly honed their output. Star Fox looks like my dreams after playing 64 every day for three months when I was 12 years old. Will and Mix Tape are doing beautiful things with story. Games are cool. Back to writing.

Can’t stop thinking about the ending of Pragmata. Aside from Ray Bradbury’s short story “The Rocket,” I’m hard pressed to think of another piece of work that more perfectly explores what fatherhood means to me specifically than Pragmata. Early thoughts, but I think that game might be perfect.

Pragmata finished. Perfect game. Amazing ending. Overall story really articulates what it means to not only love a child unconditionally, but to be selfless in that relationship, as a parent should be. 10/10. I need my friends at Lost in Cult to let me write about this one.

Looks like Pragmata is another game I'm gonna have to simply enjoy the hell out of while ignoring any and all discourse about it on the landfill that we call "the internet."
