It is no secret that I miss being in the classroom. But last night I got to give a workshop - the first one I've done since my new book came out. I spent time with students tossing beach balls (!) and hopefully demystifying this whole "Bayesian" thing. Can't wait to do it again!

Seeing a book in print always brings conflicting feelings - joy, relief, and a looming "what's next?". But today, I will focus on joy, for it is a beautiful book! It is the book I wanted to read a decade ago...but it feels pretty good to be the one who got around to writing it.

Registration is now open for the annual conferences of the Society for Mathematical Psychology. This summer, mathpsych.org will host a virtual conference (June 16-20) and Ohio State University will host an in-person conference (July 25-29).

Please share! Not 100% official yet, but I may get to recruit a Ph.D. student for Fall 2025. If you are interested in psychological methods, math, and/or some combination of those, send me a message so we can chat!

I am thrilled to get to continue my work on the Editorial Board of the J. of Numerical Cognition, now as an Associate Editor for the "Advanced Statistical Analysis" section. One of my best papers is in this journal, so I feel a strong loyalty to it. Looking forward to this work for sure :)

Superb day out at the Grasslands Trail Run! Ran this one in sandals, for which the sandy trails are perfect. No plans for performance, but ended up running my fastest, most evenly split 1/2 marathon EVER. Felt great all day….glad to have good fitness this year.

Officially promoted to the rank of (full) Professor, effective Sept 1, 2024!

It makes me so happy to see new papers every day that use my PsyStat app for computing Bayes factors. This one is from a new paper of Feder et al. (2024) in Memory & Cognition (doi.org/10.3758/s134...). A lot of my life's work has gone into that app, so thanks for using it!

The ink hasn't dried on the contract yet, but next year I'll begin working as an Associate Editor for Behavior Research Methods. Most of y'all know that this is one of the top journals for psychological methods, and I am beyond excited to join this editorial team!

New preprint: "Closed-form approximations of the two-sample Pearson Bayes factor" tl;dr - 3 methods for *really good* Bayes factor approximations from only t, df, and a calculator. How good? The "worst" vastly outperforms the BIC method (see below). Link in comments! Share and enjoy!

I just found out that my first NIH grant submission actually got a score. That's supposed to be good, right? :) Probably won't get funded, but my score is reasonably close to the payline. Still, I'm supposed to be encouraged, right? Can you tell I have no intuition about how NIH works?!
