Husband and I always exchange a book on Christmas Eve. This year’s pick for me: Simon Armitage’s translation of Sir Gawain

Just finished Sara Miles’ Take This Bread (2007). Fascinating conversion memoir from queer/left POV that interprets the Eucharist as a model for community food pantries. Truly “communion” at its radical (but logical) end.

Really loved
@petcri.bsky.social
‘s memoir on sex, music, and making a queer life. He captures a changing Toronto, and an all too rare exploration of the friendships between queer men and women. I now have a VERY long list of albums to spin.

“Queer theory…is in its flop era.” My review of Kay Gabriel’s PERVERTS is out today in
@thebaffler.com
. Kay’s book is a funny and true antidote to the cheap sentiment of bad queer discourse, a reckoning with sex/gender as pleasure center and system requiring defeat.
