I've been designing this anim software for Second Life... because I need a tool for SL which isn't Blender and its wretch UX (which has been the only choice for animators in SL for over a decade). My goal is to create a "joy to use" animator so easy to use, a newbie could pick it up and animate.

I put in a draw bones system, where you just draw lines to snap bones in place or bend joints, and then I added puppeteering... It dawned on me, I just created "drag and draw" animating... a method of animating that is way more art than tech. Also, a minimal clean UI and artist-first UX.

Select bone and rotate individually? No. Draw a spline from whatever bone you want to rotate, and the joint and its children will try to adapt to the spline. Supa fast animation... with more natural motion and curves!

Installed Debian server... I feel like I crawled through hell and back, I've seen some things, man... I've seen some things.

So far... I have GD Extensions for 3D Spline Terrain, 3D Water that works with the 3D Spline Terrain, 3D Splines... mesh object along 3D Spline, 2D Splines, 2D Spline Textures, 2D Spline Terrains, advanced 2D Steering behaviors, 2D Sprite Shatter. Should I sell 'em for a nominal fee when done?

I wanted to add Shader VFX to the shatter node.... but then remembered how much I actually do hate shaders, on all levels. It is black magic that people should be imprisoned for.

Now I have shatter sprites implemented... you can preview how things will shatter before you explode them. You can also set explosive power, how fast it degrades... gravity effect, etc... and optionally, they clean themselves up... All these things, my version of Godot is gonna be over-powered.

Instead of doing navigation... my ADHD went, let's explode sprites instead! So... that's what I'm doing now. Yep... a 2D explode sprite, lol. And now my brain is like, can we also explode pieces off our 2D spline terrain and like... have breakable terrain?

Added more behaviours... like Evade Auto Strafing, Dodging distance/angle, wandering.. But, also added built-in functionality to apply forces (like explosions and impacts) that will cause them to go off course, or even temporarily and optionally spin out of control. Next up... waypoint/nav system.

When I design these Godot extensions, I design them with an "Artist First" mentality. Instead of the typical Godot approach to tooling (which is make everything feel awful to use), I take the UE approach. Ease/Usability comes before everything else. For artists by artist.

I call my steering behaviors simple, but are they though? I love these kinds of systems though, build a lot of complexity of behavior through a few drop downs and checkboxes. Once I'm done with 2D, I'll port it to 3D.

Started porting my old steering behaviour scripts to 4... I went a bit crazy with behaviours, lol.

Now, my Spline2D extension for Godot can generate collisions... and generate them based on the spline itself... or based on the texture edge. Easy to make rough terrain and objects in 2D? You bet! Just a few things to do and this will be feature complete!

My 2D splines now have the fill.... but also, polar mapping.... fun! :) And the textures can be animated on the U and V coords. Polar mapping is extra fun, because using circular rings... the rings can animate along U in alternating directions for extra fun!

An intuitive Spline2D editor for Godot 4.6... the amazing thing is, Add Points don't just mean add points, you can edit points and handles as you add, insert, delete... cuz you know, that's just the intuitive way you should be able to edit splines. Modes have specific functions, but some things...

Yesterday's Experiment. 3D Model -> pixel perfect rendering (no breaking the pixel grid)... with features that have physical properties of CRT monitors (like glare, reflection, signal noise, RGB separation, and so much more)!

This week's experiment... Actual Mesh editing and modeling tools inside Godot... a perfect compliment to the terrain tools? :D
