Main catalyst was the Steam Deck, as I've spent a bit of time tinkering with its SteamOS and got inspired to switch over on my laptop too. Transition was not painless, as I had to spend a whole day getting the language layout, virt. keyb, power options working correctly. We'll see if it's worth it.
