How do freelance people stick to a schedule? Like one day for this, one day for that, etc. Or maybe the question is how do freelance people who are also people pleasers set boundaries around their schedule?

To the people who can sit in silence with zero background noise like the tv on something harmless like the Food Network or even a fan or other ambient white noise, what's that like? Is it nice?

My dad insists that you don't need to fork stab a baked potato before putting it in the oven. Granted his reference for this declaration is a cookbook that was first published in 1896. So make of that what you will.

Oh hey there's a call for chapters out there for scholarly writing on masculinity in Weimar cinema, which is cool and all, except that I, for as much as I have to say on the subject, don't use words like pedagogy or hermeneutics in my writing so I guess I don't count as scholarly

Film/TV Pet Peeve No. 257: When the writers use modern phrases in a period piece. There are some exceptions, like when it's something that doesn't take itself too seriously (ex: Our Flag Means Death). But otherwise it just makes the writers look lazy.

Trans people are not "violent extremists". Trans people are not the enemy. And if you take issue with that statement, you have no business being on my page.

I know awards shows are kind of a joke but I'm going to get on my soapbox for a second: I think it was a missed opportunity to not do a Twin Peaks tribute at the Emmys, esp with the advent of David Lynch's passing. Without his big brained ideas, we wouldn't have half the prestige tv we do today.

I'm still really on the fence about publishing this blog I've been thinking about for a while. I have this backlog of stuff I've written about a fairly niche topic and I'm like, wtf do I do with all this, do I do anything, do I hoard all of it until the sun burns out, what?

So what's the deal with the MD Renaissance Festival being sold out? How does that make sense? People aren't staying the whole day, are they? Granted, the last time I went was nearly 10 years ago, so what do I know. Was there a safety issue about capacity at some point?

For whatever it's worth, if the shoe were on the other foot, I don't think the biggoted, far right, white supremacist types would be offering any empathy. And they certainly wouldn't offer any neutral statements about gun control.

Maybe this is a basic pick but the Lord of the Rings trilogy. These movies brought my core friend group together back in the day. A lot of my relationships have been based on shared interests but LotR is different, it created these long term connections based on values of care and hope.
