I am so proud of her that I am quite moved. Grace, intellect, and strength.

After what we’ve witnessed with this regime, continuing to support authoritarian politics isn’t ignorance, it’s a choice. Every generation is tested. Ours is being asked whether we recognize fascism when it arrives wearing familiar colors. History will remember the answer.

If your daily intake is “people are being harmed, and it’s ongoing, and it could come here,” your mind and body may respond like you’re living inside an alarm system. That’s not you being dramatic. That’s adaptation to perceived threat. It is real.

When the brain perceives ongoing danger (even through news), it activates the fight/flight system (adrenaline + cortisol). When there’s no “resolution,” many people flip into freeze/collapse: fatigue, low motivation, shutting down.

If you’re checking ICE stories repeatedly, your brain learns: “I must stay alert or I’ll miss the next disaster.” That constant scanning creates mental overwork and sleep disruption, even if you’re technically “resting.”

When you’re repeatedly exposed to suffering you can’t stop, the brain can slip into learned helplessness (a classic pathway to depression). Not because you don’t care, but because you care so much and the events feel unstoppable.

Moral injury is what happens when you witness actions that violate your core values and sense of what’s right and there’s no accountability or safety. This often produces anger + grief + disgust + despair, and it’s uniquely draining.

Repeated exposure to violent stories can create secondary traumatic stress especially when the victims feel relatable or the threat feels close to home. Recent reports about ICE shootings in Minneapolis and the intensification of enforcement have escalated fear and distress nationwide.

Stephen King has been an absolute inspiration for speaking out against the fascist regime.

Los Angeles has had National Guard support backing ICE since June 2025, and around 250 remain. I’m tired of being told to normalize this. We are living in a fascist state.
