Aphelion was an exercise in saturation and distortion. I wanted to use it as an instrument, building tension and fullness by leaning into the wall of harmonics coming back at me. I ended up with a beautiful, lonely-sounding cinematic melody.

Creating some fun effects with a custom picture glitcher app I hastily threw together a few months ago. 5200 frames x 5 seconds per frame x 3 effects passes = Aphelion video hopefully out tomorrow?

Maybe buying another synthesizer or guitar pedal will give me a lasting sense of contentment.

Man, everybody says the Yamaha DX7 is the most difficult synthesizer to program, but I just got around to trying to build some patches from scratch on my Roland D-50, and there is something uniquely nightmarish about that. It’s like Werner Herzog and Hieronymus Bosch decided to build a synthesizer.
