⚒️ 🧪 A M6.1 earthquake struck western Türkiye today, causing one death. This area is no stranger to earthquakes. In 1969, a M6.1 quake was followed by a M6.8, then a year later a M7.2, all on different faults. Were these triggered events? And how should we think about the risk now?

The magnitude has been further refined to M8.8. It may seem like 8.7 and 8.8 are close, but the difference actually means about 40% more energy released. Logarithmic scales will do that!
