I just got a tour lock 7 of the Eri Canal in NY. It's fully functional and a boat went through it while I was there. So cool! #BicycleTour

I survived another cold night in my tent. Tomorrow and the night after will be below 40 degrees. Not a chance to sleep with my lightweight sleeping bag in these temperatures. I'm trying to find some alternatives. #BicycleTour

Tough day. Lots of road riding with hills and headwinds. 80 miles today. I have to remind myself of all the good parts earlier in the day: 2,000 miles, awsome Hudson crossing, an awsome trail. I hope it doesn't get too cold tonight with the wind and platform. #BicycleTour

Yesterday was my longest day with 98 miles. This morning I reached 2000 miles as I crossed the Hudson River. Really beautiful views too. #BicycleTour

Sad news. Dahlia decided to stay in NYC. He jumped off in Manatten or Bronx. He's been riding with me for over 1,000 miles since Illinois. Best wishes to him. May he have many more adventure.

I've decided not to end my bicycle tour yet, but to extend it once more. Tomorrow I'll start riding the Empire State Trail towards Buffalo, NY. I had a great time in NYC, sighting, biking and attending shows.

Wow, I'm at the last C&O camp before DC. Tomorrow I finish my extended goal (initial goal was the eastern IA border). Yesterday I rode 60 miles and today 50 miles. #BicycleTour #IAtoDC

Today I went spelunking 😅. Day 23 and 51 miles ridden on the C&O today. Only 130 miles left and 3 days. I can't belive it. Also starting to wonder what I should do next. Extend my ride? If so where to?

Also yesterday we moved camp from noisy rail yard (first C&O camp) to noisy rail tracks (2nd C&O camp). Not sure it helped a lot but we had to setup camp in the dark. (Another bingo card item.) #BicycleTour #IAtoDC

Yesterday i had to ride a detour on the GAP. (Bingo card event) The detour was extreme hilly and very steep 14% or so the GPS said. Lots of pushing up hill and breaking 100% down hill. There was a $20 shuttle. Should have taken it. But as memory fades, I'm proud to have done it.

Yesterday, I crossed the eastern continental divide and the Mason & Dixy line. I'm now in Maryland, the last state before DC, on the C&O canal. 67 miles.

We're staying at Queen Aliquippa Camp at our beginning of the Great Allegheny Passage portion. 71 miles today on mostly rail trails. 👍 5th state, Pennsylvania. I still need to apply that sticker to my bike. #BicycleTour #IAtoDC

Only 36 miles today but lot of road and steep hills. No fun. Needed to take a shuttle across the Ohio River because the only bridge here doesn't allow bikes. Staying at a hotel in Weirton to clean up. Got a new sticker! #BicycleTour #IAtoDC

Day 18 was 80 miles again. Our campsite is a bit off the trail and in hilly country. I crossed the 1000 mile mark of this trip today. Also meet the same rider from night 15 who is riding from WA to DC. We're camping together tonight.

The Mt. Vernon area is really pretty for biking. Plenty of old rail road stations converted into rest areas with all amenities. It's Saturday so everyone is out on the trail. Even the Amish on their e-bikes. #BicycleTour #IAtoDC

Today I put in 80 miles before I asked if I could pitch my tent in their yard. Again an awsome people said yes and even gave me food. Leg is doing ok, although I still have reminders from the crash.

I got a big bump on my right leg. That hurts a little but some initial riding went well. Peru looks like a neat place. The German bakery was closed though. And there are no hotels in town to explore the place so I'll continue on. #BicycleTour #IAtoDC

America and their fake: "How are you doing?" Cyclist asks how my trip goes, buddies that saw me called him and he wants to do a photo of me. He was fundamental to establishing the trail. I told him that I just crashed and legs hurt but that went unnoticed. Potos taken.

Just crashed. Slow speed, tight turnaround on gravel. Front tire slipped sideways and or front bag hit the ground. Bike and I tipped over. Legs are hurting but I don't think I broke anything. Taking a rest now and reassess in a bit. #BicycleTour #IAtoDC
