Even on a dreek damp autumn day, the goldfinches that tumble about the Farm I like a shower of jewels. The tinkling song and red and gold flashes of colour brighten the day. Each one a tiny feathered miracle of design.

Today’s #1000Postcards is the tree creeper. This tiny bird, not much bigger than a wren, often goes undetected due to its camouflaging feathers. It likes mature trees, where it hunts for food and roosts in the crevices found in their loose bark.

Today’s #1000postcards is the oak apple. This gall that is found on the leaves of an oak tree. Made by a tiny parasitic wasp, They can be used to make a lovely brown black ink.

9 years ago we started our little nature reserve. Without any public funding I should add. This morning I have in ten minutes recorded all these birds on our land. I’m delighted that they have all found something to eat, somewhere to stay & somewhere to hang out for a bit on their travels

My first ever attempt at making jewellery. A flat sheet of copper beaten into a 3d usable hollow cauldron. Legs and rings filed and soldered into place. Now a handle must be made before the charms that will tell a magic story can be created.

Get ready to see the smallest tiniest snails I’ve ever found. There are three babies and a mummy snail just wondering about about amongst the lichen on this twig I picked up. It’s a little bit of paradise saved from getting crushed by a car on our farm track. Who needs to go on Safari 😂
