Backyard Birdwatching Post 13: At the beginning of December, I was able to see this Northern Mockingbird on some bushes and shrubs in my backyard.

Here is a small thread of birds that I saw during the month of December at my local bog. First, we have some American Goldfinches and Golden-Crowned Kinglets. #birds

Finally, the last thing I saw at the refuge was one of my highlights for the trip. It was a Wood Duck near the end of the route for the NWR.

Next up, we have another highlight of this trip. This Bufflehead. I am really happy with the pictures I got of this one. ^____^ #birds

I have another picture of a Green-Winged Teal. Near the beginning of the trip, I was able to get pictures of a Mallard x American Black Duck Hybrid, which was one of the highlights of the trip. #birds

Next, we have one last picture of an American Wigeon with an American Coot. We also have some pictures of American Coots.

Next up, we have some pictures of a Redhead. There were about two at the lake, a male and a female. I only have pictures of the male.

Next up, we have some Hooded Mergansers. All of the male Hooded Mergansers had the hoods out. I think this is around the male start presenting for courting purposes.

Next, we have some Ruddy Ducks. The lake was absolutely full of them.

During the first week of October, I went to a famous Hawk watch near me. Here are some of the best pictures. Here we have a Cooper's Hawk, a Sharp-Shinned Hawk, and a kettle of Turkey Vultures. Most pics were not good, because they were both flying and up very high.

#SciArtSeptember 1: Islet Somewhere in the waves of Barents Sea, a rocky islet acts as a perch for seabirds. Puffins, guillemots, razorbills and skuas are still here, though threatened by heating oceans and spreading disease. With them sits a lonely ghost of a great auk that once roamed these seas.

Backyard Birdwatching Post 9: Over the month of August, I was able to see a Red-Tailed Hawk, a fledgling Cedar Waxwing in my yard, and a Turkey Vulture. I also saw a huge flock of Purple Martins flying around my house this month.

I forgot to post these. In the last week of July and beginning week of August, I visited a new area based on a rare bird alert in the area. I was successful in the seeing a the rare birds, a couple of Roseate Spoonbills. Here are some pictures.

Hey @billbowbaggins.bsky.social do you have any figures of comparison for Eastern Whip-Poor-Will and Common Nighthawks in flight? I saw a nightjar fly above me today around 8/8:30 AM. I am pretty sure it was a nighthawk, but I want to confirm. I did not get any pictures.
