💧 The City of Detroit is investing $100 million a year to upgrade our water and sewer system by replacing aging pipes and protecting our neighborhoods.

It was 25 years ago that the Mammoth Department Store closed, leaving this building vacant. Thanks to dedicated residents like John George and Collin Matthews, who worked closely with the city, the building will be gone by the end of September.

Change doesn’t happen overnight it happens every day with hard work and real investment. 💪🏾 From turning blight into beauty, to opening rec centers where families feel safe, upgrading homes, and supporting small businesses, we’re doing the work to make sure Detroit isn’t just coming back…

From blight to beauty! The Neighborhood Beautification Program is transforming our city! 🏙️George Preston and his neighbors know the power 🪄of the program! They worked together to create a new green space 🌱🌿🍃in their community that was once a dumping site.

Our streets and neighborhoods🏘️ 🏠 are safer🌄 thanks to the boots🥾🥾 on the ground work of those involved with Ceasefire Detroit. It's an all-out effort to stop chaos 👊🏽and conflict through gang violence intervention and community violence intervention.

Alongside prevention, we’re fostering protection. Last month, Deputy Mayor Melia Howard celebrated the graduation of Class 2025-G, Detroit’s newest police officers, ready to serve our neighborhoods with pride and purpose.

In 2024, Detroit’s law enforcement strategy produced record declines and resulted in the fewest homicides, shootings, and carjackings since 1965. In 2025, Detroit is right now experiencing a further 15% drop in homicides, 25% drop in shootings, and 30% drop in carjackings, all record lows.

I took a walk along the Whittier Corridor with residents to look at all of the progress we have seen. 600 broken fences, repaired. 500 vacant signs, removed. Corridors within the neighborhoods are now being reborn to drive further progress for our city in our neighborhoods.

Today, the Detroit Land Bank (DLBA) and community partners celebrate another successful summer exit of the DLBA's Occupied Buy Back Program. In 2024, 88 Detroiters who had a documented connection to a Land Bank owned home completed the program and officially became a homeowner.

Today, the City of Detroit announced the first 13 recipients of the new Detroit Startup Fund, awarding $300,000 to Detroit-based tech startups. 11 of those winners are Detroit residents.
