Five of the seven Common Crossbill from Tunman Woods. Possibly two female in the photo but taken from about 300 yards away. An excellent spot by Andy Simms as he spotted them in flight

With my car serviced and not that far from Fillingham, it was just a short detour to see the Grey Grey Shrike again. It showed well in its favoured field again on a miserable morning. It did a full circuit just for my entertainment

At least 15 lesser redpoll on my garden feeders here in Lincoln. Along with lots of hungry goldfish I think I need a bank loan to replace the seed that is being consumed

After yesterdays dreary day when the sun and birds disappeared this morning is totally different. Both are back and put a different outlook to my Lincoln garden. And today, they even allowed me to get a half decent photo. Lesser Redpoll and the beautiful Siskin

The long staying Glossy Ibis at Buck Beck, Cleethorpes on a very dull dull day. Nothing dull about the birds though. My very first visit to the area and certainly not my last

Redpolls have been back in my garden since before Christmas. Increasing in numbers during this cold spell they are still present in smallish numbers (probably six to eight today) and also still camera shy

The reason I always think about today is it was 108 years ago today that my father was born and also the day that I started work at Ruston & Hornsby's 63 years ago. I stopped at the company all my working life and through its many name changes until I retired Officially old. Where did the time go?

Only two of the three divers for me at Covenham Reservoir. Missing was the BtD. Compensation was the snow bunting and a green sandpiper, raven and and my first goldeneye of the autumn

Bitterly disappointed with the quality of yesterdays photos and once news came through that it was still there. It was Ann and the dog into the car for another trip down to Rutland Water for the Baird's Sandpiper. This time I was happier and had the bird all to myself on the far side of the inlet

Found by Andy Sims this morning some distance away this Pectoral Sandpiper had moved to to be just in front of the hide by the time I had finished my breakfast and walked over to Boultham Mere. Its constant companion was a Ruff

After seeing the Black-winged Pratincole at Nebraska Wetlands it was over the Humber Bridge to the North Cave to see if we could see the Night Heron. Came across a guy who was watching the bird. Over the water in thick trees. Without him we would have walked straight past oblivious to its presence
