Some local councillors too always pushing Sligo as a relocation destination but ask them about where these people will live, how they will find a doctor or dentist and it's crickets.

Criminal is right. It’s obscene even in good times, & let’s face it, these are not good times. 15k homeless, all local Govts neglect to impose Dereliction taxes,
#VacantIreland
&
#DerelictIreland
are all around us, & our Govt of landlords lead us all a merry dance. The Pied Piper wouldn’t be in it!

This is a massive criticism I have of of Sligo ATU trying to grow at a pace thats out of touch with the housing and transport infrastucture in the area, its deeply unfair especially to young students. But then they openly refer to their students as "human capital" so I shouldnt be surprised.

The housing crisis has been manufactured over years & years of government policies that can f*ck people up in so many different ways This can been seen in how they do not look after their existing housing stock No consideration that these are peoples homes Scandalous & criminal

We will help by giving more people the opportunity to end up in debt while making sure profits continue to rise which will help landlords, property speculators and developers.

If you're a student there is no where to call home but will that stop Universities recruiting so the money keeps rolling in Perhaps they see it as part of a students education & preparation for life So when they're educated there is no need to evict them as they can simply emigrate

Home sweet homeless-ness Welcome to Irish Government policy Yes successive governments led by Fine Gael & Fianna Fáil, many with landlord TDs & landlord ministers created the homeless crisis It doesn't have to be this way We have the empty homes, not the political will

Yes, politicians make people homeless through their policies Doing nothing about 65,000 homes empty in a housing emergency is scandalous How many Children walk past empty homes every day as they move between their homeless shelter & school Its criminal behaviour by those in power

When it comes to housing supply there is a big f*cking elephant in the room Last year CSO found 65,000 homes empty for 2 yrs, using ESB data, yet for same period less than 3,000 paid the vacant homes tax So thats around 62,000 houses waiting for someone to call them home Me at Oireachtas

Also Alfonso and Rob from Maremoto who are very illuminating on the concept of asset urbanism. It's also important to recognise the movement level work of people like
@frankoconnor.bsky.social
, and the many people around CATU that are really doing the hard work on these issues.

Evict this landlord government It's shameful & conflict of interest that in Ireland we've landlords not just as elected TDs, not just as members of government but also as ministers deciding housing policy as per last nights RTB We need to put people who need a home first

This is wrong on so many levels Why recruit students onto courses if there's no accommodation? The fact
@ucc.ie
are also property hoarders makes this way worse In a city where volume of cars is already suffocating its a real struggle to see how this fits their Global Sustainability brand
