The world must be brought to heel. It cannot be trusted to govern itself...it needs a god. A Magus....no. I cannot let myself go down that path. But is it up to me?

When could he rest? He was made to lead humanity into a new age. To be all that humanity could be. But one look at the world, told him he failed. Maybe....maybe the world needed a F̴I̷R̶M̸E̷R̸ ̸H̸A̶N̴D̶

More memories....his replacement, Eve. Was she still alive? Surely he wouldn't be needed if she were....had she found the Evolutionary yet? Did she have the same darkness in her? Or had she found her own life on some far off world? Her own Counter Earth to protect.

Through the pain, as he reformed, memories filled his mind. Memories of Counter Earth, the Man Beast, the Infinity Gauntlet, and his own future seld, the Magus. Did he even want to come back? Each time he returned, he risked returning as his evil future self. Would this be it?

As the search for survivors continues, something stirs in the wreckage of an unremarkable office building. Consciousness flickers. This was always the worst part. Everything hurts. There's no capacity for thought. Only the agony of his body liquifiying amd rebuilding itself.

But there's no reply. Just the sound of the wind and burning city.

From the ashes of the King in White....a cocoon now lies in the rubble that was once Manhattan, pulsing with new life amongst all of the death.

He pours more energy into his blast, straining himself. Every fiber of his being burned and felt stretched thin. For a moment, it overtook Illyana's....but then he felt something inside snap, and his beam collapsed. He could only watch as the flames engulfed him. The King in White was no more.

He smiles back, weakly. "Thank you, Jean. I will do all I can. When I'm gone....it'll be up to you to get to the bottom of this."

"You know I can't do that...." With all the strength he had left, he fired a blast of quantum magic at her. Not that he expected much, but someone has to try.

"I don't have enough power left to heal all of the injured. I fear my usefulness will be....limited."

He lifts his staff and his hand glows with quantum magic. "The way you do things, Darkchylde, there's no difference." He knows that he has next to nothing left. He knows this is how he dies.

"Illyana....I can't let you do anymore damage." Not that he's on any shape to do anything about it.

The King in White was made to fight Knull. But Knull's gone. That new power is beginning to wane. He feels it with every wound he heals. He's burning out.

"....I see....then its worse than I feared...."
