I think this is a very tiny praying mantis on my strawberries - found today? It's the size of a rottweiler hair and "trust me" I have cleaned more hair from our beloved Lily Rose than I can count. ??

I fried up the dryads saddle from yesterday. Decided to make gyros for tonights super. Homemade tzatziki sauce, sweet raw onion, raw thin sliced radish, and fried crispy dryads saddle. Yum yum in my tum tum. #fungifriends

This forest in the Muskoka region in Ontario is by far the nicest one we have visited. Picture taken in 2019 - beautiful streams, lakes, lg rockery, ferns galore, natives everywhere, and mushrooms. Fall oysters chilling on a log overlooking the peaceful stream. Heaven. #nature

What's blooming and ready to pop today in my garden. This week is looking perfect weather wise with average temps. 24°c. Spent the morning planting the zucchini, tomatoes, and cucumbers. It's hubby's b-day today so supper is a beef roast, asparagus, potatoes, and fried morels. Yum, all from Canada.

Just got back and bingo found a few. We had lots of rain for the past two days and cooler weather so it brought them out. One more week to look and then the short season is over for these beauties. #fungifriends #morels #ontario

This weather lately is crazy! 30°c on Sunday and Monday - finally washed the bed quilts to 10°c today and now frost tonight. Covered the young plants and excited about the new garden. Made natural stick cages for the tomatoes and cucs. Haven't found many morels, the weather is stunting them.

This morning's breakfast. Dryads saddle and morels served on sourdough toast. On the long weekend to do list is mulch in the gardens. Picked up a yard yesterday and we'll need another two to complete the beds.

I really like this picture and it brings forth a mood of calm and wonder. Coprinopsis variegata, commonly known as the scaly ink cap chilling with a dryad's saddle on a large decaying log. Misty, lush, and magical. #fungifriends

The dryads saddle/pheasant backs are now the size of a cookie. With the weather warming up they should be ready by Saturday. They are an underrated mushroom imo. Young, small means tender and delicious. They require a long cooking time to bring out the flavour and texture. I like them crispy on 👇

Victoria Day long weekend is looking up! I always find morels around May 14th - Our Spring has been exceptionally on the cooler side so I wasn't getting my hopes up. My rule of thumb is 7 days above 15c and when my lilacs flower pedals are the size of a mouse ear...lol that's when I start looking.

It won't be too long for chicken of the woods to start fruiting. I found this gorgeous cluster in late spring. I was shocked as it's usually a fall mushroom. You must get them young for the best texture and flavour. #mushroommonday

What's blooming in my garden today. Too cold for mushrooms but I did find nubs of dryads saddle that will be ready once it warms the heck up! Virginia bluebells, purple rockcress, trilliums, and white rockcress. Tulips are also out. Found some strawberries today for $3 better than $5. # gardening

Well lookie lookie what I found today behind one of my gardens. This little black morel braved the cold. Tonight I'm making a stir fry and said to Steve "whoever gets the morel tonight is the lucky one" he said "I already know who that will be" Lol 🤣 what a guy.

Turkey tail mushroom is considered medicinal - I take a supplement daily. It's a common polypore mushroom found throughout the world. Owing to its shape being similar to that of a wild turkey's tail feather's. This large cluster found on this huge log are in prime condition. #fungifriends

Ramps/wild leeks are out in mid western #ontario - picked a small batch for tonight's supper and some for tomorrow. The 2nd picture is ramps started from seed 4-5 years ago. They take 7 years to mature from seed. Taste is garlic/onion and are delicious! #organic

Congrats! I remember finding my first one 10 years ago and it was what got me into mushrooms. You're part of the club now. The blondes/yellows won't start here until middle of May. Black morels should be up within the next few days.
