working with Keith Rowe so extensively and deeply on Erstwhile is the professional achievement Iām most proud of in my life, we put out 24 releases containing 39 CDs from 2000-2021. the great Marc Medwin has written about all 24 in a newly posted epic piece on āsurroundā, please check it out.

A summary of essential recordings from Kevin Drumm's later "Bandcamp" era, a handful of favorites selected from the noise/drone master's endless flow of exciting music.
loading . . .
kevin drumm | select recordings, 2011 āĀ present
Calling Kevin Drumm "prolific" feels insufficient to sum up the sheer volume of material he's released over the years, mostly self-published, often at a clip of a dozen or more recordings every year. Drumm has always been an iconoclast, rarely content to sit in one place musically for long, and since 2011 that restless spirit has been embodied in his release methodologies as well.

A review of the subtle interactions of piano and location sounds on Ćine O'Dwyer's fascinating triple cassette Turning In Space.
loading . . .
Ć”ine oādwyer | turning in spaceĀ (2023)
The London-based, Irish-born sound artist Ćine O'Dwyer is very sensitive to the notion of place. Her music is always consciously embedded in its setting, in conversation with the environment around her. She has consistently explored interactions between sounds she produces, the contours of a particular location, and the external sounds that can be found there. Her two volumes of Music For Church Cleaners…

Carme López brings extended techniques to a surprisingly warm, emotional, boldly experimental album of bagpipe drone music.
loading . . .
carme lópez | quintela (2024)
The bagpipes have been especially constrained by culture and history, limiting the applications of this unique instrument to a pretty narrow range. Though important historically as a traditional and ceremonial instrument throughout much of western Europe, bagpipes have rarely seen much use outside of those contexts. Today, most people are familiar only with the shrill, martial sounds of modern Scottish Highland bagpipes as used in military rituals, or played at the funerals of police and soldiers.

Since āWah Gwan Delilahā exists, going āback to backā with lawsuits like this is still somehow only the second most embarrassing thing Drake has ever done.

Olivia Block's beautiful new album channels Krautrock and '70s prog but also feels like a clear development from her meticulous electroacoustic work.

Quite enjoyed my first listen today to this new album from the newly returned South Korean label Balloon & Needle, great textured live improv work from all 3 musicians.

No idea what this could sound like based on the extreme range these 2 musicians have, which makes this a very exciting announcement!

Choi Joonyong and Devin DiSanto confound narrative expectations while noisily dismantling a piano.

Like so many other things in this world, absolutely disgraceful. A system wholly designed to extract mass amounts of money while treating the actual art, and the people who make it, as fully disposable. Buy music on Bandcamp and other digital sellers!

NP. The first Olivia Block I heard years ago, still such a gorgeous blend of stormy water/wind recordings, acoustic instruments, and subtle electronic processing. Masterful.
