That brought a loud round of boos, and one of the white women lawyers (who said she specialized in defending men accused of sexual assault) said that she'd never seen a woman assaulted who "hadn't gone through a slut phase, and that sends a signal to men." Everyone there was a lawyer. Everyone.

the men (and several women, all white and cis) started asking if she was sure she hadn't implied interest without realizing it. She said she hadn't. And one of the men said "this is why we can't be alone with you." I then asked why we should want to be mentored by men who thought like Mike Pence.

Just thinking about the time I was at a CLE held by a group of women lawyers, and one of the lawyer speakers (a cis man) said that men can't mentor women anymore because "we're all afraid you'll cry rape." Then, when one of the women said she'd been assaulted by her boss and broke down crying,
