Just here to enjoy horror and other nonsense. Letterboxd:

I made bread (I make it because my body rejects most food because my liver is a deadbeat) and I think fresh bread might be the best thing humanity ever invented. I’m not convinced there is anything better. 5 ingredients and my soul is replenished by bread with olive oil spread (can’t eat butter).

The only sticking point of Tremors (1990 through to infinity) is that I have too much sympathy for the worms. They’re just trying to find lunch, they can’t help that they’re giant worms 🤷♀️ Tonight, Spooky Month Day 25, it has been a long, tiring day - so I’m watching Tremors 2 (1996) 🥳

Many years ago I was vetting resumes at my workplace, and the criminal history reports were attached, and I saw one candidate who had been charged with attempting to destroy an aircraft. I think about that person sometimes, because… what does that mean?? 😭🤣 Also, I suspect they’d be fun at parties.

Before you dress up as Freddy Krueger for Halloween I am begging everyone to remember that Krueger is explicitly written as a paedophile.

I love that in Fear Street part 3 they opened with Sarah Fier delivering piglets, because midwives and female healers really have been subject to intense suspicion of witchcraft for thousands of years. Any woman that threatened male dominance over something important was a ‘witch’.

Spooky Month Days 19, 21, 22 and 23 did indeed happen for me, I’m just tragically bad at remembering to say anything about it! Anyways, my spine was tingled by a lovely quad of films this week.

If an actress carried on like a complete psychopath, the way Marlon Brando did, she would be buried under public outrage. Men can be toddlers at work and they get called passionate or perfectionist or genius. For behaviour that no woman would be allowed to get away with. It’s so fucking tedious.

When I was a kid it was my dream to either be the person on movie sets who goes out and finds the weirdest, most random items that are needed for props, or to be a script supervisor. As an adult, I’m not actually sure I would be *good* at either of those things 😂

One of my cats is very dedicated to catching and eating spiders. Which is fine, but I take issue with the fact that he at no point kills the spiders. He just catches them and stuffs them into his face completely alive. It’s weird.

Man they really made some weird choices for The Lovely Bones movie, didn’t they? Who the hell read that book and thought ‘I know, Marky Mark and Rachel Weisz?’ If ever there were roles that needed to not be filled by distractingly good looking people, it was the Salmon parents.

I feel like we might finally be at a time in human history when people will be able to watch Southland Tales (2006), understand it, and love it. Maybe I won’t be out on this limb alone forever 😂 The stupid reality it’s set in is finally comprehensible because it’s basically the reality of 2025.

Exorcist: Believer was a strong franchise reboot, and I am bummed that we are not getting the sequel, which was to be called Exorcist: Deceiver.

My dudes, the internet is like… broken, and it’s really throwing a spanner in the works of Spooky Month Day 20 for me! If I can get access to it before I need to go to sleep I will be watching Noroi (2005). Korean found footage, let’s go (when the internet works again)!

Danny Torrance is the least interesting character in Dr Sleep (and also in The Shining) and it’s not even close. I don’t know how they managed to make the central, powerful psychic boring, but uh… they sure did.

What if the creatures in From just started a fire in the tow and waited for it to spread and burn all the buildings down? Would the talismans prevent that because the fire was started by the creatures?

There’s nothing wrong with being just like the other girls, btw. Never be ashamed of the things that make your heart happy, including when those things are massively popular and on trend. Popular things are usually popular because they appeal to a large audience - like what you like 🫶🏻

I don’t watch Sweeney Todd anymore because I can’t tolerate Johnny Depp’s rancid face, but sometimes I still think about Allen Rickman’s character in it, because ‘You’ll kill me, boy? Here I stand!’ was a fkn great line with great delivery and it lives in my head in perpetuity.

Exactly how many streaming services is a person supposed to be paying for?? There’s a new one every 7.4 seconds and I absolutely cannot justify more than like 2. If the industry doesn’t want people pirating media, they might want to rethink this whole 87 billion streaming services thing.

I have never met anyone else who has my IRL name, but now there’s suddenly a character on a current tv show who has it and I cringe every time anyone in the show says it because not only are they using MY name, but they are pronouncing it WRONG 😂😂😂

I did not like Hereditary and that has gotten me in some trouble on Reddit lately 😂 Some people seem to think that loading every second of a film with acute human suffering and blood = horror, but I disagree. There should be something scary in it, too, and Hereditary just did not have that for me.

Don’t ever call me a horror connoisseur, because I absolutely am not. As in the rest of my life, I have utterly failed to develop good taste. I love a shitty instant coffee as much as a great espresso, I love tacky shit as much as high art - and I LOVE a d grade horror as much as an Oscar winner.

Ok I’m minding my own business, watching my movie, when I hear 4 kids yelling from the sunroom. One voice transcends them all and I hear my youngest son bellow: ‘No! I told you we need to kill Santa FIRST! All the reinforcements are under his command! Without them, they cannot defeat us! Strategy!’

Spooky Month Day 18! Ready to roll with There’s Something Wrong With the Children (2023). The score is already a banger, loaded with a great retro vibe. Zach Gilford, while not a household name, does bring *some* weight with him because he’s a Flanagan player. Let’s go!

It is UNBELIEVABLY irresponsible and dangerous to promote a series of films about demonic possession as ‘based on a true story’. It is especially egregious to do that by laundering the reputations of two extremely sinister sexual predators and grifters. Fuck everyone behind

Today for Spooky Month Day 17, I am re-visiting Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016). The first time I saw it I was pretty sick with a virus and I don’t remember much 😂 I do remember thinking ‘oh look, Elizabeth Reaser AND Kate Siegel, I sense Mike Flanagan hiding somewhere nearby!’

Tonight I will have to do a double feature because my Spooky Month Day 16 movie is not suitable for children and my son wants to watch something with me, so we are having a wonderful time with Mad Max: Fury Road ✌🏻 That flame thrower guitar was a shitty guitar, according to the guy that played it 😂
